Basically. For every "my sad past explains/excuses my assholery" asshole, there's lots of people who survived the same or similar awful shit without becoming massive assholes.

I mean, I've been assaulted by both cis men and cis women, but I'm not running around claiming only trans and non-binary people are safe to be around.

And also Rowling's focus on transphobia is weird if it's a trauma response because afaik she's only been abused by cis men who dressed in standard menswear, not trans women in dreses, gay drag queens, or cis male transvestites.

If she was sincere but misguided in fearing being attacked by cis men, why is she so laser focused on fear of (what she thinks are) cis men in dresses rather than cis men generally?

I mean, the reason is transphobia, but...

Because the policy of self ID allows men to be in women's spaces, and the need for women to have protected spaces has not diminished. If we were living in a post-domestic violence world, cool. Otherwise? No. I'm still going to want women's shelters to be able (legally) to keep men out.

I believe we should be making the government fund the sector to have adequate capacity and facilities so that trans women can have protected spaces too. I just don't think the best solution is to put everyone under one roof.

However I think attacking her directly is stupid, because it just serves to rally everyone who tries to cape for her and gives her more oxygen for her histrionic grandstanding, when what she really needs the most right now is a nice long period of quiet irrelevance.

This. The huge majority of people who beat and kill transwomen are men. No women has killed a trans woman. Yet the opposite isn't true. A lesbian couple was was killed by a transwoman, and recently a black girl had the shit beaten out of her by a group of transwomen. All because she disagreed with them. It's that violence so called terfs are scared of. There are now men in women's prisons saying their transwomen so they get access to women. To abuse and rape. These are men who untill the law changed to let transwomen in female only spaces showed no inclination of ever seeing themselves as women. It's those people JKR is talking about. Not the transwomen who just want to live their lives, but the evil abusive men who see a loophole to access women. One women can't do anything to sto. It starts with letting self identifiers into toilets and moves on to having a so called transwomen wanking off onto a woman's back in the gym showers. Something that actually happened, yet guess who was kicked out when they complained. It wasn't the wanker.

NAYRT--no, but ffs, it's also not rational to expect the world to remove every possible source of trauma for everybody ever, especially when kicking trans women out of women's shelters hurts way more trans women than it helps cis women. It's like assholes who claim that pitbulls are too dangerous to live and should just be exterminated, but with even less justification. (How many times has a cis man dressed as a woman in order to assault a cis woman? Once? Twice? Never?)

Let's flip the argument someone (you?) upthread made about how trans women should have their own government funded, separate from cis-women shelters and until they exist should just live with abuse (until they die waiting for help.)

Cis women who are scared of penises should fund their own penis-free spaces. Until they exist, they should just live with their abuse and possibly die waiting (although maybe not if Rowling and other transphobes throw enough money at you. Try the salvation army, they'd love it.) Stop expecting women's shelters to let trans women die and make your own exclusionist shelter network. But you have to make a big deal about it being penis free since that's literally all you care about.
