Games thread!

See for me, at least Doctor Townsend is a really well-done manipulative creep

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I never really thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right!

I remember this being a thing in Xena, as well. It's shitty to say, but I don't think she's an easily "marketable" goddess.

I'm probably going to watch that series, mostly for him.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It gets a biiit better in the second series

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The stuff with him and the young kid was bone-chilling.

George is...weird, 'cause I don't really get creeped out by him, in large part because it's hard to find him all that threatening when he's talking-I get kind of a jokester-era Freddy Krueger vibe from him in those moments. But I do find him interesting in terms of what he reveals about whatever Kristen's afraid of and dealing with.

I very much fully agree with the OP on more of watching the team do their thing and Ben being his awesome self, though :D. The more we can learn about the team themselves, and the more we get to see them interact, the better for me.

The eggs were just downright creepy. Like yes, they weren't fertilized, but "Frog Lady" was clearly sentient, so he's eating eggs of a sentient species???

WTF.

I was so scared for that little tadpole in the end.

I don't think it's that weird. I think we often look for thing in fandom that are different from real life.

I also think dysfunctional relationships are far more interesting (to watch) all in al.

It didn't bother me, but not having had a an older sibling I was close to - I found it believable that a big brother would take a "dad" role. But things with dead fathers always irk me these days.

Came here to say the same thing!

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't recall her being presented that warmly in the original mythology, so business as usual, I guess. Did she ever even try blaming or getting even with her shitheel of a husband?

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I mostly like loving, happy couples, but there's absolutely something compelling about fucked up and messy ones too. I just don't tend to vibe with them as often but man are they excellent when I do.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about that series in particular, but I think one of the problems with Hera from a modern point of view is that she doesn't usually take her problems out on the person who cheated on her (Zeus), she takes it out on the women he slept with (and/or raped) and the children that resulted from that. So, while her anger is justified, she usually takes it out on the innocent rather than the perpetrator.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I was expecting that any moment now they'd have to stick their fingers down his throat to get their kid out.

I tried watching this the other day and couldn't get past the first 20min or so. It just felt bland and annoying at the same time? I figured I'd give it another shot, because I did like the setting of this modern magical world. But if that's the big lesson, I'm not sure.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about Percy Jackson, but I don't recall her ever blaming her slut husband in any of the myths.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-25 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
For me, my inability to figure out why the grandmother is even slightly interested in him is the least enjoyable part of the show for me. (Although I'm generally all for grandparents getting some, ig.)

I also just wonder what the lesson here is? Is he supposed to be good? Bad? Neutral? Is he learning to play nice with other creatures? Is this just a stupid gimmick? Who knows.

Her MO, as I recall, is generally trying to make the illegitimate offspring's' life miserable.

Yes. ‘Easy prey’. ‘Helpless and unprotected it is.’#’'Eat the child do I? No. Feel the urge to eat? Yes. Base instincts we all have…learn to master them we must.”

I'm leaning on neutral. A baby that in a true baby fashion sticks everything in his mouth, but doesn't have anyone to teach him better. Child neglect, really.
