122. A lot of people feel the same way you do.

127. Me, too.

131. There are some things that should just stay in your head. Deep in the retarded recesses of your mind. This is one of those things.

162. LOL. Not at the secret, at the pic.

166. Right? Someone's asshole is bound to get sore.

167. BUT WHERE IS THE FIC? SHARE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

175. I am NEVER going to understand how a human being can be asexual. Never. I can see being abstinent, or going through a long period where you just don't want anything to do with sex, but to me, PLANTS are asexual, not human beings. Everytime I see or hear someone talk about how asexual they are, I roll my eyes.

183. And now I want fic for that, too.

175. Thank the fucking lord. I completely agree with you. I mean I can see someone going through a dry period, but not being attracted to anything, ever? I think it's a load of shit.

Re: 122, 127, 131, 162, 166, 167, 175, 183

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Repeating my comment from above, do you also believe sexual orientations other than your own don't exist? (http://www.asexuality.org/home/)

Re: 122, 127, 131, 162, 166, 167, 175, 183

[identity profile] whatthebec.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I absolutely believe that other sexual orientations other than mine do exist. However, I do not think that half of the people that say they are asexual actually are.
I have never come in contact with a true asexual. I have, however, come in contact with people who have SAID they were asexual. The people I know, after a few months, would be "over it" and dating someone or having sex.

I also find it a little hard to believe that someone has never been attracted to ANYTHING sexually in their entire life. But I guess I shouldn't talk about something I do not know.

Re: 122, 127, 131, 162, 166, 167, 175, 183

But I guess I shouldn't talk about something I do not know.
Pretty much, yeah.

There are people out there who say they're asexual, but it really is just a dry spell. There are also people out there who say they're bisexual for a short period of time and, after that, say they're completely straight. Does bisexuality not exist because people overuse the term (and that's not even touching the issue of just labeling yourself how you see yourself)?

Re: 122, 127, 131, 162, 166, 167, 175, 183

[identity profile] fromyourashes.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Part of me thinks, Ok. They've been saying the same thing about bisexuality, and I get pissed about that...but it's just not. Especially given the nature of that particular secret, ya know? You're asexual, but you want porny fic? No, ridiculous. Maybe it's because what I learned about that word in school is completely different than what it's being used for now, I just cannot ever agree with any human being who isn't developmentally disabled claiming asexuality.

Re: 122, 127, 131, 162, 166, 167, 175, 183

[identity profile] whatthebec.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the word asexual is being thrown around too much.
I mean if you want porny fic of something then you OBVIOUSLY are not asexual.

Re: 122, 127, 131, 162, 166, 167, 175, 183

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is it "just not" the same as bisexuality? Because you can understand bisexuality and not asexuality?

175 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs*
I'm in my mid-twenties and I have yet to feel any sexual attraction towards anyone. I've had more than a few experiences of having intense emotional attraction to various individuals (and the occasional fictional character or celebrity), but no matter how much I find myself wanting to spend all my time with the person in question, the desire to do anything sexual with them just isn't there.

It's certainly possible that I just haven't found the right situation or the right person yet... and if that's the case, I'd be willing to revise my assessment. In the meantime, rather than going around in furtive mental circles worrying that something must be wrong with me, I'm going to identify with the orientation that's currently most accurate and get on with my life.

As for Amat... if I were really interested in it just for the porn, I'm pretty sure that I could come up with a character less severely unsuited for it (and more aesthetically pleasant) than Psycho Mantis.

edited: And yes, I know some people say it's possible and that it's not meant in the same context as plantlife, lol, and that there is some medical data to back it up. I understand it, intellectually. I just don't see it.

Damn, man, I was just here (http://www.asexuality.org/home/overview.html), reading that over, and about to edit, but you people were too fast for me.

But no, I still don't get it, because at some point, you're going to get older and get over the desensitization caused by your lives and the media, and things are going to change.

I repeat, do you think this about sexual orientations other than your own? Saying that "it's just a phase" is different from saying you just can't understand what feeling that way is like (which is perfectly understandable).

Jesus christ, that's the most condescending bullshit I've fucking read in days.

Go trying reading some asexual communities on lj - there's people in there in their 30s and 40s, and apparently, they haven't grown out of it yet. I suspect they'd tell you to go to hell. I sure would.

There are different types of asexuality too. It's a broad subject, it's not a simple statement such as 'i refuse to have sex or any relationship ever'. Yes there ARE some people that are like that, but there are also different types of asexuals.
I have met many gay men that refuse to actually have sex because they simply don't want to and have no desire for it. There are many asexuals who choose to masturbate, but choose to not have sex.
There are many asexuals that choose to naturally have children, but still don't enjoy sex. There are many asexuals who have no desire to have sex, but still do because their partners do.
I know a couple that has stayed together for nearly a decade now, are still very much so in love, happily live together, but neither of them want to have sex or plan to in the near future.

All these people are asexual. All of them.

Re: 175

[identity profile] fromyourashes.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what to say to that. I have never enjoyed sex, but don't consider myself asexual. I masturbate, but choose to not have sex, and am not asexual. I've stayed in a relationship out of love and not had sex, and never considered myself asexual.

Until there are more facts out there, I just don't buy it as a term used to describe human sexuality, I'm sorry. I'm not telling you that you're wrong. I'm simply stating my opinion on the matter.

Re: 175

(Anonymous) 2009-01-17 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
all of those people are, in some way, sexual, not asexual. if your trying to give someone a definition of something, i don't think being all over the board like that is how to do it. the way you describe it, it's just a handy dandy word to throw around for every little thing a person "chooses" to do sexually. and by the way, there is no choice when it comes to defining your sexuality.

by your standards, i'm beginning to doubt that i'm an asexual being, and i've always considered myself one, so thanks a lot.

Re: 175

[identity profile] masterfedora.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea if you'll read this anon but I hope you do.

Doubt is not a bad thing. Sexual orientation is so rarely easy to define. I envy the hell out of people who can just say "I'm blah blah blah" and never doubt that. However doubt helps us discover who we really are.

True asexuals exist but they are rare. Very rare. It's not my and anybody else's place to tell anybody if they are a true asexual. Even if they're not they deserve the right to be one at this moment. If you realize you aren't an asexual, the time you spent thinking you were one was not a waste. It was part of your journey.

That sounds cracktastic I know but I've been there. A few years ago I was convinced I was asexual. It explained so much. It seemed like it was the answer I had been seeking and...it wasn't. I learned later that I could participate in and enjoy sexual activities. I didn't have a non-existent libido, I just had a low one and it takes a bit to trigger it. Nowadays I identify pretty much as bisexual with autosexual tendencies. Maybe it'll change one day. I don't know. For now it's what I am. For now asexual is what you are, maybe what you'll always be, but it's okay if you're not.

The sad thing? I feel like I betrayed my friends in the asexual communities who were so supporting. I hope you don't have to feel like that. I hope it doesn't take you years to tell your story.

LMFAO. That was my favorite response. Concise. To the point. No bitching, no whining, no attempts to make me understand. Good deal.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-17 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can't see why anyone would bitch or whine about you claiming they don't exist. Pansies.
