Is there no mod for a Varric romance? I thought I saw one but that was a while ago. There was a mod for the first game that allowed you to kiss anyone. I used it to pretend my MC had a tragic romance with Duncan. There might be something similar for the second and third game.

God, same. Dragon Age is the worst for me. Nathaniel, Aveline and Varric are all non-romanceable and it kills me. I also count Cassandra because I specifically want to romance her with a female PC and they made her straight. I genuinely could not care less about "enforcing stereotypes" or whatever, I just want a butch wife in one of these games.

The only character I ever wanted to romance in that series is Duncan. I feel you on that second point; there were characters I might have romanced but didn't for the same reason. Maybe the next game will have the wife you're hoping for? Not much info on it yet, but you never know.

Shout out to Luminous Arc 2, where the girl I shipped with the MC was the one who was never drawn in a wedding dress and never got pushed as a potential bride, precisely because the whole “marriage = proof of adulthood” thing was so stupidly over the top.

Old game but Jade Empire. The internet told me it was possible and I tried every thing I could like of, but I never was able to get the gay romance to happen.

I especially hate it when the non-romanceable characters have better designs than the ones you can (Or when an otome protag is super cute but the guys' designs are mediocre, but that's a different problem)

I'm actually trying my best to avoid this trope in a game I'm writing by having all non-route side characters have extremely non-fuckable designs (they're mostly monsters on the non-humanoid level of a Dragon Quest slime or something) and mostly one-note roles.

Oh I feel you OP, I wanted romance Tali or Miranda on my fem!Shep but well, those aren't options I could go for, lol.

And tbh I found the wlw choices in ME to be severely disappointing, Samara(understandably) rejects any advances you make and I just didn't like Liara, despite the game clearly trying to push her onto me. Like I know the game devs got flack for 'player-sexual' NPC's in one of their games but honestly? It's an RPG, it's not the real-world, let me pick who I want. It's not as if I'm making it 'canon' for other players so who cares?

I haven't played Mass Effect yet so I'm not familiar with the characters. I heard the non-straight options were disappointing overall? Were there too few or just not done well? I don't mind player-sexual NPCs, but it drives me crazy when the game tries to push one character over the others. Its the surest way to make me not pick them.

Not always in my case and I can usually find an option that suits me but 2 words: Saren Arterius.

I understand why it wasn't possible - and it makes sense when it comes to the plot but I just wanted to fuck / save Saren.

I never was that interested in Varric though. It was Fenris all the way for me, even though Anders remains my favourite character in DA2. I guess I just love being insulted by fictional characters.

Which, by the way, is why I loved a silly DS game called Princess Debut - in which my favorite character goes away on a travel (?) mid-game and I thought it was just my bad romanceable character karma but in the end he is the only character that comes back towards the end of the game to go to the ball with you. So. Yeah. I actually cried when he came back lmao

I don't know if anyone else places the mobile app Choices--it's probably the best out of the interactive story mobile games (rip Storyscape) but almost all of the stories, I tend to be more interested in the characters who aren't love interests, or who are the tertiary love interests who get screentime once every two or three chapters. Of course, it doesn't help that often these characters often end up being the POC love interests or the female love interests (when the game isn't offering the gender and race customizable love interest devoid of any real personality but they're the only romanceable character so it's them or nothing). Totally frustrating!

Oooooh man, same OP, same. I was curious about Ikemen Vampire and ended up falling for Count Saint Germain, who at the time didn't have a route. Woe.

This is why I'm grateful to Fire Emblem for allowing you to even romance the voice in your head or the ugliest bastard in the bunch. And you get to pick who will end up with who based on your battlefield choices. Strategy game? Nah, man. I'm here to make my units go kissy kissy with each other.
