Speaking more generally...

If I could avoid interacting with antis and anti-antis/pros, I would happily do so, as I've found both extremes to be incredibly insufferable. If I had to choose, however, I'd rather interact with anti-antis/pros, as they're less likely to be doing actual harm to real people. Both sides tend to argue that "no one is saying [thing that many people on that side have said explicitly and repeatedly]", or "real [x] don't do [bad thing]" or "real [y] only do [bad thing]." Both sides also used to try to drag me into their drama and see which "side" I was on, which I did not appreciate.

At the end of the day, I'd rather be in a room with a pile of steaming shit than a room with a rotting corpse, but I'd also rather not be in either of those rooms at all, and I wish the owners of those rooms would stop trying to deny that it smells bad at all. Thankfully, I've befriended reasonable people who appreciate nuance and don't align themselves with either group, so I've gotten quite lucky in that my exposure to the nonsense is primarily indirect now.

Incidentally, I feel you very much but I'd side with the antis if I had to pick. Only because if I had to pick one side - between promoting some heavily problematic ie. pedophilic and other kinds of unhealthy ships and not finding ANY issues with it like we did in the past OR "no shipping allowed" - I'd pick the latter. BUT, of course, that does NOT mean I disagree with people shipping anything. I just would rather not see people publicly treating pedophilia or incest or whatever as things that should be fine and acceptable in this day and age. Because all I see in "pro"s' discourse is that.

Big yikes that you think "no shipping allowed" is better than letting people ship whatever problematic things they want because you think that would normalize those things. Are you even aware how long people have shamelessly shipped pedophilia, incest, et al? Decades. Centuries. Before fandom was called fandom. Have they been normalized because of shipping? Of course not. My mind is genuinely boggled at your and antis' inability to see the proof right in front of your eyes that shipping is going to cause a major upset in societal norms. You utter naive children. Who has failed you?

DA - In my opinion the disconnect here is that (most) antis are people for whom reality and fantasy have a very close relationship. The way anti's think and feel about the idea of things is almost 1:1 with how they think and feel about the reality of things, across the board. That's just how fantasy works for them, and it's how fantasy has always worked for them. Therefore, they don't understand that that isn't how fantasy works for everyone.

I think most antis are disgusted by people with dark kinks, because if they themselves had those kinks it would mean they were in some way aroused by that stuff in reality. Because that's how fantasy works for them. So when people say they kink on stuff in fiction that they would be horrified by in reality, it sounds like a lie to the anti, because as far as the anti knows, fantasy doesn't work that way.

This. Proshippers aren't saying incest and pedophilia are fine and acceptable in the real world. They're saying they're fine and acceptable to write and read fiction about, because something happening in fiction is not the same as something happening in reality. There is no government task force out there ensuring that every time someone reads a Wincest fic, two horribly co-dependent brothers fuck.
