Johnlock? there are so many ships out there and yeah some of them are ubiquitous but I've never seen anyone on F!S stan their ship hard outside of GC and even then it's wholesome fun."

Eh, it’s not always pedophilia. I once saw a RWBY anti say you can’t ship Blake/Yang, because it’s psychologically unhealthy for two people to date if they were traumatized by the same person.

So it's a bit complicated, and different sides say they represent different things.

Antis (or antishippes) refer to a small amount of fandom policing
Pros (or proshippers) refer to more of a free-for-all sort of fandom outlook.

Both have reasonable points when looking at the more moderate ideals, but some of the more extreme takes can be

Antis: anti anything with an age gap or with a younger character (a common cited thing is a 17 year old with a 20 year old), anti "problematic" ships (incest, psuedo-incest), calling certain ships "pedophilia" that don't really fit into that mold

Proshippers: being cool with pedophilia (like actual pedophilia not just a 17/20 ship). And this isn't me just generalizing. Because I follow people on both sides of the sphere, I have seen people actively talk about and retweet these views.

Another thing is there's a bit of an age line in who is what.

Prominent antis tend to be younger people, often minors, who are trying to create a sort of autonomy and sense of control in a space. But they often go overboard.

Prominent pros often are those who are a bit more experienced with online fandom spaces and realize that censorship can be insanely harsh and crush minority (predominately LGBT+) voices. Also that works/ships can be used to explore sexuality in a safe way. But again, there are also those who are just very very extreme with Your Kink is Not My Kink thing where they will be chill with very obvious pedophiliac works. And sometimes refuse to examine certain tendencies (an example that isn't necessarily pro vs anti is a recent debacle with a white artist that draws almost exclusively Asian women beaten up or in grotesque scenes, which has prompted good discussions and call-outs of fetishization.)

The main thing is that pro-shippers stay in their lane. They don't go around tagging their pairing into wherever anti-shippers hang out. No one give a shit about antis if they didn't tag their hate.

Speaking more generally...

If I could avoid interacting with antis and anti-antis/pros, I would happily do so, as I've found both extremes to be incredibly insufferable. If I had to choose, however, I'd rather interact with anti-antis/pros, as they're less likely to be doing actual harm to real people. Both sides tend to argue that "no one is saying [thing that many people on that side have said explicitly and repeatedly]", or "real [x] don't do [bad thing]" or "real [y] only do [bad thing]." Both sides also used to try to drag me into their drama and see which "side" I was on, which I did not appreciate.

At the end of the day, I'd rather be in a room with a pile of steaming shit than a room with a rotting corpse, but I'd also rather not be in either of those rooms at all, and I wish the owners of those rooms would stop trying to deny that it smells bad at all. Thankfully, I've befriended reasonable people who appreciate nuance and don't align themselves with either group, so I've gotten quite lucky in that my exposure to the nonsense is primarily indirect now.

Incidentally, I feel you very much but I'd side with the antis if I had to pick. Only because if I had to pick one side - between promoting some heavily problematic ie. pedophilic and other kinds of unhealthy ships and not finding ANY issues with it like we did in the past OR "no shipping allowed" - I'd pick the latter. BUT, of course, that does NOT mean I disagree with people shipping anything. I just would rather not see people publicly treating pedophilia or incest or whatever as things that should be fine and acceptable in this day and age. Because all I see in "pro"s' discourse is that.

For me, Proshippers will always be better than Antis, But I do things that DW Proshippers can be very defensive and overreact a lot. Not to the point to come off as obnoxious, imo.

I don't have tumblr and am only on archiveofourown. I don't come across 'antis' but I do come across some very morally questionable fic, as in clearly peodophilia.
I'm with OP on this.
I've read through the discussion and it's always the same voices saying the same things (as what always happens on fandomsecrets!) that is, throwing ad hominen attacks at anyone who states that- for the majority of people- coming across a fanfic with an adult having sex with a literal child (I'm not talking about a 17 yr old with a 20 yr old, I'm talking about, for example, a 12yr old Loki being raped by a 20 something year old Tony Stark as with one description of a fic I came across) as being fucking wrong.
"Yes but it shouldn't matter because the characters are fictional".
Look, I actually don't mind fic that deals with dark matters. I infact love a good hurt comfort fic, where a character is raped and has to deal with working through their trauma. I even don't mind fics dealing with childhood rape, if they're written well and, again, focus on the characters dealing with healing. I also agree that for a lot of people, these fics can work through their own trauma.
On the other hand, there are fics (I know because I've come across them) that are clearly just porn of a child being raped by an adult. Sure sure they're fictional characters. But if everyone steps away from fan fiction for a moment, look at it from the pov of the rest of society, way from the fan fiction niche. Survey 100 people in the street (including fan fic writers) and I'd argue that they would find the idea of a fictional pornographic story of an adult raping a child to be disgusting and wrong, and they would question the writer.
Should people be doxxed for writing a fic with a twenty year old having sex with a seventeen year old? Of course not!
However, too many people on fandomsecrets it seems are so busy throwing ad hominems at the so called "antis" and saying YKINMK to every single fan fic written out there, without really looking at the truly disturbing fan fiction that is out there, that is truly advocating paedophilia.
