I haven’t seen the pro-shippers celebrating a suicide.

I'm honestly kind of stunned by the OP, but maybe they've never interacted with or seen antis do the horrible things they do.

The people who make secrets like the OP are either ignorant or disingenuous. I tend to feel like it's the latter.

OP's secret refers only to the Fandomsecrets community. IMO The worse thing that pros and antis on FS do is be hyperbolic and annoying. The anonymity doesn't really allow for anyone to do anything more than be shitty.

Yeah, given that the whole point where antis separated from YKINMK is the willingness to make lists of fans that needed to be shamed, I'm not sure how antis could really operate here.

Then what exactly are they even talking about? It would have been helpful for them to be specific about behavior. As it stands, I rarely see antis here, but I've also never seen obnoxious pro-ship behavior.

Honestly not sure what that would even be. Forcing someone to read something? Judging someone for not liking something? What exactly would be the pro-ship behavior that would be equivalent of the antis judging people for what they read, telling them they can't read it, telling them they are bad people for reading it, dogpiling on them, stalking them, and all the other awful things antis do. Pro-shippers just think people should enjoy what they like and leave everyone else alone. I have a hard time seeing how that could ever reach the same level of obnoxiousness.

I'm in a fandom where the proshippers are the majority of the BNFs. A friend of mine on twitter makes personal posts about how uncomfortable they are with anybody adding incest to their ships, and of course, a pro-ship person entered the conversation to add about how cool incest is. My friend blocked them, and the pro-shipper went on to complain on their blog about how 'westerners' are obnoxious and too PC.

No one was doxxed, nor suicide-baited, nor stalked here in our fandom. But the occasional dogpiling does happen from pro-shippers which is why my friend was scared of it and blocked ASAP. In regards to what an extreme version of pro-shippers would look like, I believe the reylo fandom had an issue with pro-shippers doxxing each other, and pro-shippers forced Lindsay Ellis of twitter by trying to pick fights with her about a ship(? I know the Raya stuff came later, but that's how it started).

It's not like being a pro-shipper or anti is a sign of moral superiority. It's just the nature of internet discussions (especially on twitter) that make people into jerks. I ignore extreme examples of pro-shippers and antis being bad because I don't think it's unique to any side. I think it's how twitter behavior works now days.

I'm someone who would be classified as pro-ship, but I've definitely seen way too many pro-shippers show their asses for me to be comfortable calling myself one. I've pretty much washed my hands of the whole scene.

I can at least say I'm much less stressed out now, lol. Pro-ship/anti discourse is A Lot to be subjected to on a constant basis.

I believe her argument was that a lot of cartoons now days are using ATLA as a model (which I don't think is a bad thing for cartoons to do, nor really false, ATLA is a good show). I don't think twitter got that nuance.

For what I saw, SHE choose to leave twitter when Asian people told her not to use a show made by white men as the example of the "best" Asian-inspired media because that was a bit racist. She doubled down on her position, then erased her twitter completely. While I don't doubt she has faced threats and worse for her views (After all, she has a thread on the kiwi farms and those people ARE awful and don't stop at doxxing) I am not sure this is a case of her being a victim of the "pro" shippers (a term that still confuses me as I am not sure someone can be pro all ships, while others be anti all ships)

Pro-shippers didn't force LE off twitter over a ship. She and another breadtuber were called out for shitty behavior regarding a topic they didn't understand, which they doubled down on, and then the Raya stuff happened, so Lindsay flounced.

I've been following the pro vs. anti debates here for awhile. I was initially going to put in that "While I find both sides annoying, I find pro-shippers more so.." But it made the secret too wordy and honestly more nuanced secrets are less engaging.

On FS, I find both sides to be extremely defensive, strawmannning, and hyperbolic. However, there was a secret where someone said they didn't like pros or antis, and I thought proshippers really went over the edge in the comments. One of the comments was someone referring to antis as the "book burning murder squad." The context of the comment made it seem like they were being dead serious too. If anybody has a link to that secret and the discourse, you can throw it on here and all judge for yourselves.

I don't remember that secret. And that is a little extreme to call all antis that. What I would say is that there is an extremist portion of antis that is that, whereas I haven't seen the same sort of "murder squad" mentality of trying to throw people out of the internet and dogpiling them and reacting to disagreements by calling them evil even from the most extreme pro shippers. So I get where that person is coming from because that portion of the anti section does exist. But it isn't all of them, just the loudest part. And frankly I don't care if people are personally internally judging based on fictional preferences as long as they don't start trying to force their preferences on others, dogpile attack with nastiness just because of those fictional preferences, or hurt people in real life. Antis who stay in their own lane I have no problem with.

There have been other discussions on here too about the same topic, and people on the pro-ship side love to make it seem like people who don't want to interact with uncomfortable stuff are literally Stalin or nazis. "Ooh! A historical event of genocide and cultural destruction where real people died! Let me go ahead and compare people who are angry at my underage/adult fic to that!" Come on...

Me: hey I'd like it if people under the legal age of consent were not encouraged to have sex without decent sex ed that includes advice over how to avoid bad relationships with people who might want to take advantage of them sexually.

OP. This was another thing I saw on that thread and here. Some people would talk about their bad experiences with proshippers. And the pros would accuse them of lying. Like yeah, this person could be lying, any of us could be. But that person's story is definitely not out of the realm of possibility on FS.

You realise that pretty much anyone reasonable now tends to believe AYRT?

I mostly remember pointing out that your argument based on a single anecdote was flawed because teen pregnancy can and does happen whether or not there's an age gap, and at the time you seemed fixated on the pregnancy being the problem rather than the, you know, illegality of that particular relationship. I suspected you argued in bad faith and this historical revisionism proves it.

I have seen antis literally chase people off of social media. LGBT people and women, mostly. It makes me roll my eyes that people don't realize how often it's minorities that antis attack. So fuck off with your "but they're NOT the book burning murder squad" when antis have deaths to their names.
