Yeah, I'm with you there, and I'm not even Russian (I'm Polish).

I'm not sure why is it okay for an American author to borrow so much from one place/culture/language, without doing any proper research, and pass it on as some clever fanstasy world-building just because her main target audience doesn't know better. She apparently claims that it's not really Russia, so it doesn't have to be really accurate - fair enough, but then she should have done the work and changed more things/invented some new vocabualry instead of just borrowing random words.

Do they like....highly powder the actors in these kinds of shows? There skin is always so smooth and pale. But not in a good way. A weird, flat way.

I have to say that most of my slash ships are two white guys. It's weird and I wonder if there's something racist about it, but there we are.

My het ships often have a woman of color though. So I guess I can identify just fine with a female protagonist who's not white, and I think the characters are beautiful.

I'm white and bi. Maybe I have a thing for WOCs only.

I find it hard to ship Turk/JD in the show because they have one of those super close relationships where if the gay thing were gonna come up and be a thing, it would've come up and been a thing already. They even literally address it from time to time confirming it's not a thing. It's hard to see how, if it were going to come up at all, it'd suddenly be a new development after all this time.

Fwiw I don't ship either of them with anyone else, and have no ships in Scrubs, so it's not that I ship other things. And I'd be down for AU fic of JD/Turk or it happening in the past or whatever. I just can't see it in a canon-compliant fic, or ship it in the show itself.

This is one of those things where - in my opinion - it really is systematic. That there's a racial bias is something that shows up in the broad fandom wide trends, not something where each individual person's decision can be motivated by racism. But I think it's a good thing to be aware of nonetheless.

There's no particular reason you have to ship it if you don't vibe with it

But as far as this goes as a more general argument, the problem for me is that there are plenty of popular ships that are best friend slash soulmates

My brain autocorrects Grishaverse to Gregverse every time I see it, which makes being on the internet fun right now.

(The show does look good though. I liked the first book. Weirdly, my friend who recommended it to me is Russian and is not as bothered by the random Russian words as I'd expect.)
