Leave a comment if you've every gotten goosebumps while listening to music. I read somewhere that this is a rare phenomenon but I just don't feel like it's rare at all.

Yup, absolutely do. Happens all the time to me honestly.

Is it rare? I've had it happen many times.

I never knew it was rare. I get goosebumps whenever I hear a new song that hits just right or when a song matches my mood perfectly.

All the time. Music is one of the few things that can do it for me. Music just has a profound effect on me. I love music.

All the time. I also cry a lot too over beautiful music, like, full on water works, tears streaming down face.

yes

maybe not literal goosebumps but I have had deeply visceral physical reactions to emotional music - shivers, heart pounding, etc.

who the fuck says this is rare? it's probably more apt to say it doesn't happen to every single song you listen to, but once in a while you just hit a certain chord progression or a certain note + the lyrics that transports you from mere listening to feeling. It would be really annoying if that happened to every single song you ever listened to. Driving with the stereo would get really awkward.

Not just goosebumps, music moves me emotionally more than anything else. It's power over me is extraordinary.

I can't tell anyone this in RL because it makes me sound like a total arse. XD

I have never considered this could be rare. It happens to me a lot (Hans Zimmer can you just chill).

It's literally the first thing on the list of other stimuli that might trigger them.

Goosebumps: More than just being cold
Most people associate goosebumps with unpleasant situations, such as feeling particularly cold or feeling afraid. Yet there is more to it than that. The arrectores pilorum are hooked up to the sympathetic nervous system, and the sympathetic nervous system has input from many parts of the brain, including those involved with motivation, arousal, and emotion. So other stimuli may cause goosebumps, for instance:

- hearing music or seeing art that is particularly moving or completely engrosses you (which is why you might say “it gave me chills”)
- awe
- pride
- excitement
- fear.
