Sudden rainstorm after a terribly hot day.
I had a catered lunch for the building inauguration. Food was adequate but not gourmet.

I finally managed to sell off all but one puppy! However, craigslist isn't getting me any inquiries anymore. I'm still desperate to get the last puppy rehomed to a good place soon so I don't have to worry about my larger and unsocialized dog getting aggressive with a playful puppy, and I can have my sanity back.

Pissed at someone at work who absolutely NEEDS some information off our shipments that they have never needed before. So now I have to go through all the shipments from 2020 to find this stupid f'ing information.

I went for an hour-long walk around my neighborhood this morning. It's starting to look like pre-pandemic times out there: most neighborhoods were pretty deserted, not a lot of cars parked on the streets/in driveways like a lot of people have gone back to work, kids out playing on the playgrounds at their schools, mid-morning traffic looking like it used to, empty park, etc. It's promising, and gave me a little hope.

Got stuff done tonight, visited my parents briefly and got rid of two bags of house-cleaning trash that had been sitting in my kitchen, but ugh so much pain now after driving across town.

Took a long shower and made a more complicated than usual meal for myself, with enough for leftovers, swung by work to pick up packages (I get most things delivered to work now because they get stolen off my porch a lot) and one of them had either been stolen or marked as delivered when it wasn't yet, sigh. Still enjoying my week off.

Hopefully I won't kill myself moving furniture, but I think there's a mousehole in the baseboards behind my pantry cabinets, so I've been cleaning the shelves out so I can move them away from the wall--they're fucking heavy and I'm worried I'll be squashed if I knock one over.

Utterly exhausted. The movers finally arrived with our stuff at 6:30. We've been working on that ever since. They just finished.

Before that, my dad arrived at 8:45 this morning. He wanted to immediately get to work on cleaning things up, doing various chores, unpacking boxes already here, putting together things we didn't have the tools to put together yet, and all sorts of other chores. I also had to run to Walgreens to get some things twice. And I had to take care of my kitty and prepare her for the movers.

Right now my back is spasming, my jaw is throbbing. All I want to do is eat dinner, take my meds, and go to bed.

Feeling pretty blue about my relationships (I haven't seen any of my friends in person in months, and trying to catch up through text or setting up online things to do only ends up in people dipping or falls flat), my place in life and the pandemic status where I live. It's heinous and crushing and the end it's not in sight for us. Tomorrow I'll get up and try again but tonight I'm giving myself some room to feel grief.

Have a cold and I feel bleurgh (but no Covid fortunately) and tried to watch that Netflix Eurovision movie to kill some time but I stopped because I kinda hated it.

Commissioning Fanworks

Have you ever commissioned a fic? Fanart? Other fanwork? How pleased were you with the end result?

Have you ever been commissioned to create a fan work? Why did you start taking/asking for commissions?

What are your dilemmas (or what makes it not a dilemma for you) regarding this subject?

I know you can take a chance and see if someone may fill a prompt in a meme, or maybe that author you like (or tolerate) is taking requests on their Tumblr. (Personal vent I can only share here lol: But the thought of getting a customized piece of fanwork just for you? I only ask because sometimes I'm so tempted to get something commissioned and yet...fandom for me has always just been a free labor of love that we can choose to pursue or abandon at will. It feels weird, paying someone for fic...however, if I'm making a request for a fic, tailor made to my expectations, containing X word count, featuring particular characters, X number of smut scenes, particular tropes, then how can I not give you something back for a work I specifically requested made by someone whose writing I enjoy?

And believe me, it's not like I'm going to be sharing my custom OC/MC fic with X tropes with the world for profit...and yet I've yet to do it. How do you feel/what's been your experience, F!S?

Ethical? Non Ethical? Do whatever the fuck you want anon, why are you asking us? Lol

Never comissioned myself. Had a few requests but not comissions. I never thought of my art as being of high quality enough to sell.

I don't have many dillemas actually. I think coming from fandoms for stuff like manga I grew used to doujinshi so it doesn't bother me that some people sell fanworks. COMISSIONING feels a bit weird to me, particularly if it's comissioning a ship the artist doesn't like for instance. Otherwise I'm okay. If I were a big enough artist to create a work that people would sell fanworks of... I'd only be honored I guess.

The first and only time I had been asked about commissioning art was by the white bread guy pretty much around the time I had first heard about him. I felt like I had lost 10 years of my life.

I did it once, when a fic I was working on took a year and ended up novel-length and novel-shaped and I felt like that kind of an achievement deserved a reward. So I commissioned a cover for it.

The artist was very good skills-wise. She also took a look at the reference pics I sent her, gave me a couple of potential sketches of how the art would be blocked so I could pick the one I liked, and sent me a more complete draft for last minute changes.

I'm pretty happy with the art, and the commissioning experience.

I do still feel a bit conflicted about the 'money for fan work' thing. On the other hand, this was specifically commissioning labour and skill, not mass-producing merch, so...

I have commissioned podfic of my own and others' fics. (before I bought a microphone and started making my own.)

The reason why is that I have no social capital. I would love to be a BNF and have people offer to remix, write sequels, and create podfic or art for my fics, but that will never happen. Thank God some people still accept cash.

I've never commissioned, and I've never been commissioned. Not sure I would ever consider either -- I guess I don't really believe in it. Yeah, I know people do doujinshi and all that stuff and I'm not judging or condemning anyone for doing it. I've just always found the concept weird, someone making money off of someone else's idea they probably didn't get permission to, even if they're particularly talented. I suppose if it were a free domain thing, or if the person got permission from the original creator, and/or a portion of the profits were going to the original creator, I'd be more open to it.

Exhausted-to-the-point-of-having-a-breakdown anon here. I did a lot of reading, came up with some theories as to why I may be feeling so bad and my body overflowing on cortisol 24/7 and took some clonazepam I found lying around and now I'm Well Enough. Obviously not good but not about to die / convulse anymore. One of the websites said "say positive things, it helps!" and I agree so that's what I will be doing from today on while I can't have a break or an appointment. Thanks for the support everyone. :)

I recently discovered that I love port. It’s super sweet and really yummy to me. I feel super weird whenever I buy it, like I’m being judged.

Also like beer (ales and lagers mostly), tequila, mezcal, brandy and white wine. Sometimes gin too.

I have two favorite liquors to make mixed drinks out of: Bacardi Dragonberry Rum and Western Son's Prickly Pear Vodka. I mix them with sprite/sierra mist and lime juice.

My favorite fancy drink is something I got at a theater called The Winter Soldier: 1 part blood orange vodka, one part Curacao, one part vanilla vodka, one part pineapple juice, one part orange juice.
