I love costume dramas but I am so done with all the usual eras. I desperately want some ancient world costume dramas. Not just Greek or Roman (though would love more of these too), but everything from Ur onwards. As accurately as is feasibly possible and with no intervention of modern politics.

I was with you up until your last seven words, especially because the choice to avoid modern politics is itself political, especially as shorthand for "diversity is bad and ruins media for me."

I can see how it would come across that way, but I was hoping the fact that what I was essentially hoping for were costume dramas in with no white people at all would negate that - as most of the ancient civilisations weren't white.

I don't want modern politics in it because modern day life is stressing me the hell out. Also because American racial relations copy pasted over everything gets really goddamn tired and boring. I want to know what life was like back then, or an approximation of it.

I understand being wary, but "modern politics" isn't necessarily shorthand for "no diversity". And ayrt specifically mentioned Ur, which was located in what is modern day Iraq. Maybe don't assume ayrt means no diversity unless they've actually said that's what they want?

YES. I'd love some Ancient Egyptian, but really, anything ancient would be fun.

Too big of a Woke minefield so it is doubtful. Look at the last couple of Egyptian movies and the hate that was generated by having an ethnically appropriate cast. People are dumb and no actor is going to trash their career.

you know, it's about time they started mining the Epic of Gilgamesh for story ideas. I'd be down.

I genuinely don't think people, especially producers, know enough ancient history to know what is "accurate" and what is "intervention of modern politics" and they certainly won't listen to their history consultant (for your hopes they should have several) when what is "accurate" conflicts with what is entertaining or what would irritate sponsors or create unwelcome commentary. That's besides the fact that history is in constant review and disagreement, and enough ancient history still affects modern politics that you will not doubt have people reading into the media with modern perceptions. So good luck.

but i agree that more ancient history would be great.

AYRT I am totally aware that this is a pipe dream. Nevertheless, the existence of 'Rome' alone gives me some paltry hope.

I've had really bad insomnia this year, and nothing has really helped me sleep. Lately, I've found something that has worked. I watch one episode of Natsume's Book of Friends before I go to sleep, and I'm out like a light. It's just such a warm lovely show that it cranks down my anxiety and let's me fall asleep.

B!S: I wish Nyanko-sensei/Madara was real. I love him!
