I've never forgotten the bit in The West Wing where, at the end of the episode, Josh Lyman gently, pensively says to Jed Bartlet, "We talk about enemies more than we used to. I just wanted to mention that."

It's not a line that really works anymore, because we're so far past the point of trying to work with the political right, now. They've proven beyond the tiniest room for doubt that enemies is the only relationship with the left (or POCs, or LGBT people, or women) that they are open to.

But back when the show first aired, it was a really beautiful, poignant line.
