Favorite quotes from your fandoms? (insp by #1)
(Anonymous) 2021-07-10 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering." - Fourth Doctor (Chris Boucher, Doctor Who: "The Face of Evil")
"Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones, but you still have to choose." - Twelfth Doctor (Jamie Mathieson, Doctor Who: "Mummy on the Orient Express")
"Never be cruel and never be cowardly. And if you ever are, always make amends." - Twelfth Doctor (Steven Moffat, Doctor Who: "Hell Bent") (There are other variations of the never cruel or cowardly bit, but this one is my personal favorite.)
"One word, Mollari. One word was all that was required of you."
"It would not have mattered. It wouldn't have changed anything. It would not have stopped."
"You're wrong, Mollari. Whether it was me or my world, whether it was a total stranger or your worst enemy, you were a witness! It doesn't matter if they stopped. It doesn't matter if they'd listen! You had an obligation to speak out!" - G'Kar and Londo Mollari (J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5: "The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari)
"Regret is part of being alive. But keep it a small part." - Avon (Tanith Lee, Blake's 7: "Sarcophagus")
"Laws change depending on who's making them, but justice is justice." - Odo ( Michael Piller, Star Trek DS9: "A Man Alone")

"We must wait for reinforcements!"
"Reinforcements? ... I am the reinforcements."
There are so many lines I am particularly fond of because they are so poetic and/or witty, but if you're going for proverb-esque...
"A tyrant always dies alone, Guildenstern. Surrounded by silver-tongued leeches, he is utterly alone. He sows sorrow and reaps death."

(Anonymous) 2021-07-11 12:22 am (UTC)(link)A LOT of the volume poems. Besides certain changes, worse pacing, not as dynamic art, and the such, one thing the anime falls short on is it does not have is the poems/quotes the mangaka will put between chapters. They add depth to the ideas behind certain character motivations (and are usually portrayed with a small character panel that they might be applied to)
"If it rusts, it can never be trusted
If its owner fails to to control it, it will cut him
Yes pride is
Like a blade" -Volume 8, The Blade and Me (character image: Zangetsu)
"People are not beautiful to me,
But flowers are
People are only like flowers
When they are cut down" - Volume 37, Beauty is So Solitary (Character image: Yumichika)
"No world exists without sacrifice.
Do we not realize that we call
this hell where ash floats
upon a sea of blood, the world" - Volume 42, Shock of the Queen (Character image: Halibel)

(Anonymous) 2021-07-11 05:19 am (UTC)(link)It's not a line that really works anymore, because we're so far past the point of trying to work with the political right, now. They've proven beyond the tiniest room for doubt that enemies is the only relationship with the left (or POCs, or LGBT people, or women) that they are open to.
But back when the show first aired, it was a really beautiful, poignant line.

And, additionally:
"I can't believe it!"
"And that is why you failed."
