tbh I'm genuinely impressed whenever a piece of media goes through with killing a child. Is it terrible and tragic? Absolutely! And it should be!

But I've always found it a weird narrative thing that the small, defenseless child is going to survive all the shit that grown adults don't. It doesn't make logical sense so when a series has the child die I'm always impressed that they followed through with it instead of playing it safe.

SAME. Threatening to kill a child has lost pretty much all impact for me because the narrative virtually never goes through with it, so it doesn't even register as a real threat to me anymore. If a character does that, it's always like "ah so they're going to be saved at the very last minute, got it" and there's no tension there, whereas if they threaten to kill an adult character there's a much better chance that it might actually happen.

Omg, yes, I feel the exact same way.

I have a similar issue with miscarriages. I'm over them being used as a angst plot point.

TV shows need to stop using miscarriages for cheap angst, to be resolved by the end of the season, at latest.

A miscarriage isn't something you ever get over. You learn to live with the grief, and it gradually fades and becomes smaller and less sharp, but it's still there, waiting to ambush you.
