"By your NEXT Birthday..."

It actually says "Next birthday" and doesn't put a year on it. I feel like it does say 16 somewhere but maybe I'm conflating it with Ariel's "I'm 16 years old!" rant in Little Mermaid.

Looking up in Disney wiki has her listed at 16. Though google says she was originally 15 so might have had a year added on for 'maturity'

Though I just grossed myself out finding out Aladdin is 18 regardless.

She was 15 at the start of Aladdin, though it's not stated in the movie itself I don't think. We can assume the entirety of Aladdin is over 3 days, thus making her 16 by the end of the film.

Flynn Ryder is 25. Rapunzel is 18. So that's a whole other can of worms.

That's the average age difference between partners, crazy.

*eyeroll* She's 16 by the time they get together, and 16/18 is not particularly alarming. Also she's royalty and he's merely marrying into royalty, she has loving family to support her and he's an orphan, and she has a fucking sapient tiger for a friend. So if anything I'd say the power differential skews firmly in her favor.

But don't you know that as soon as you turn 18, a switch is flipped and you directly turn from slightly older teen to disgusting crusty adult who is a pedo just on principle?

100% accurate

Why is it gross? Over a two year age difference? Didn't you ever know anyone in high school who dated outside of their grade?

Though I just grossed myself out finding out Aladdin is 18 regardless.

The internet has fucking ruined people.

I strongly disagree with ayrt's opinion on this, but ffs, please stop this "yOuRe BrAiNwAsHeD bY tHe InTeRnEt" silliness. Some people find things squicky that you don't. You working so hard to invalidate that mostly just reflects on you.

Re: "By your NEXT Birthday..."

The whole thing with squicks is that they're the person who has them's responsibility and absolutely no one else's. "tHe InTeRnEt" has done an excellent job of convincing many people that the opposite is true and it's everyone's responsibility except their own to manage their squicks. The person you're defending may not be that type, but their "Aladdin was RUINED because it had a thing that squicked me" nonsense doesn't bode well.

It's no different than people finding Sonic the Hedgehog porn and declaring their childhood 'ruined', some people just aren't overly comfortable with sexualized content of cartoon characters, especially those from their childhood. This isn't a new concept.
