Should we just pretend we didn't see that?

101) As far as I can tell you're supposed to ship everyone and everything in Shakespeare (though personally my Rosencrantz/Guildenstern fixation has more to do with Stoppard)
115) I used to do that on message boards (or rather I'd give myself a vaguely masculine screen name and then not correct anyone).

[identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
101. Totally agreed. I saw a version at Folger where they made an allusion to the Stoppard play and about a third of the audience laughed.

Um...you do know the song is from God's point of view?

[newsflash - Skillet is a Christian rock band. I used to work with them back in the day]

Re: 131

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair--I think the song is written so it can be taken either way. Also, I read recently (I think in an interview with John Cooper?) that when the band plays in secular venues they purposefully try not to be labeled as a "Christian band" because of the connotations that has with a secular audience. They don't want to only preach to the choir, you know?

N!S For starters, why cling to the term "fangirl"? I don't. For starters, because I'm too old to be a girl.

108 I wish I could feel bad for him if he dies, but I've expected him to die pretty much this whole season so far. I felt bad for Kara in that episode, though. I know what it's like to see your loved one in a life-or-death situation.

130 Well, for one thing, it's refreshing to see fans value characters' platonic friendships every once in awhile, instead of just pairing people up so that they can fuck. (I quit watching the X-Files long before Scully x Mulder became canon, but I was always adamantly opposed to that pairing.)

141 Because there's no fandom surrounding Nader, right? LOL

142 First of all, this is impossible to read. Second of all, judging from the picture, that character's nose is not big at all

130

(Anonymous) 2009-02-18 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I am here to agree with you. Platonic friendship and platonic love is wholly ingored in Fandom. I've realized that Fandom is mostly all about transforming all canons into a cheesey romance novel, a soap opera, or porn.

102: I'm almost 30 and I hope I never stop liking nerdy things.

113: You wish your Grandpa had Alzheimers? *ducks and runs*

117: That's kinda awesome.

120: I can understand that. The bloopers and such always make it look like they're having fun.

123: Wow, yeah that's a pretty good reason. It'll be weird is your kid grows up to be a Twilight fan though.

138: I agree with you.

141: Hey neat you got to meet Nader. Is he nice?

151: Unico! Oh and...uh...

141 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-18 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He seemed pretty nice. His umm...well, someone with him kept trying to be like, "No more pictures! No more signing!" But he took a picture with me and shook my hand. I went to a rally he did in Chicago after Obama became the democratic candidate. I was searching myself, who would I vote for? Even though I knew Nader wouldn't win, he made me cry with joy at his promises. He's not an eloquent speaker like Obama. But he won me over because I believed him when he said if he had the chance, he would fulfill his promises.

117. My Christian father looked at me like I'd grown a second head when I told him I liked Dogma. :/ It was one of the first times that I really vocally disagreed with him.

119. EVERY TIME I SEE MENTIONS OF THE DARK TOWER, I THINK YOU MEAN THE SEVENTH TOWER. Those old Garth Nix books. I loved them so hard when I was younger. ...I just felt the need to add 'secret because nobody read it and The Dark Tower is actually good' but then I realized I was commenting signed in. Whoops.

156. See, I can't reread that fic and enjoy it the same way either. I read it when I was bored and eating lunch in the dining hall. And I must have been smiling or something because I caught this one guy staring at me. :( Now I just go all blushy and awkward when I think about that fic.

Re: 117, 119, 156,

Does your father have any idea that the movie was written and directed by a Christian?

130. I used to think like that. Then the internet gave me slash-goggles (Can you still call it that if you ship girls and boys and energy and inanimate objects and machines and on the odd occasion concepts and embodiments all around, or is it just with men you call it slash-goggles?)

So while I can still see where they're coming from, I do also agree that friendship is not ALWAYS superior to romance, and that there can be a time and a place for both. Sometimes being buds is the cool thing for me, sometimes pairing them up just feels right. Variety is wonderful, after all.

155. MegaTen Silent Protagonists dancing to NEWS? Hell yes link me that shit.

157. What series is that? And why do I think the bunny-eared girl looks more out of place than the starchild?

t!b 1. I need to know what musical stars such a fabulously snazzily dressed fellow, I need to know it right now.

YUGIOH 5Ds, FRESH PRECURE, UNICO, AND THUMBALINA? TODAY IS MY DAY.

102. Yuusei is like, one of my new favorite main characters ever. There is so much I could say on why I love this guy.

133. She's an awesome girl. I thought I'd find her boring but she's so admirable! I'm amazed! A great example of a really focused, responsible girl.

151. fff They would make even just the cutest friends. WHY MUST UNICO BE SWEPT AWAYY~

I'm still flabbergasted by the fandom that has built up around this movie. I loved it in 1992, seeing it twice in empty theaters before it shuttered. Ten days it lasted in cinemas, and it didn't even get that big of a video release. But it's persevered, and I hear that it even turned a profit for Disney. God bless fandoms built on the back of VHS.

116. The movie is fun, though I find the music to be better than the actual movie, if that makes sense. It's really not the "OMG, classic" fans make it out to be sometimes, but give it a try if you can.

144. I still don't get it. I don't care what anyone says; Sarah Brightman is friggin' awesome. And her voice is beautiful. From her old stuff to her new, you can really tell how hard she's trained. Her pitch is so much clearer and purer now. I love the sound of it.

151. OMG UNICO SECRET! ♥

115. I usually just don't give out my gender either way. Most of the time people end up thinking I'm a guy, especially in Transformers fandom. It's not that big a deal, but it amuses me a little bit.

121. If they've endured as much as they have and come this far, I don't think they're going to drift apart now. Right now I'm more concerned about Ofdensen. I'm going to be so pissed if he dies. D:
