I dont really know how twitter works but that second part is way petty and shitty of you.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Right? It seems like so much extra work.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like a massive cunt.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, are we getting in trouble for quote-tweeting instead of straight retweeting something now? I like to comment on what I retweet...

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think that's not something you could get in trouble for, but maybe I'm wrong?

It would be a different story if it was a reblog on Tumblr where it's not always obvious who the original poster was. But quote retweeting? I thought it always shows the original person.

QRTs pull engagement away from the original post, what I usually see folks do is either RT and then QRT to comment on it (which leads to timeline clutter), or RT and then make a separate "LRT: [comment]" post or directly comment on the original post if they want to make sure OP sees it.

SA
For clarity, "pull engagement away" is because QRTs are considered an entirely separate post as far as likes/RTs are concerned, so any likes on your QRT do not count towards the original post's likes. Users have to manually go to the original post to like it, and you'd be surprised how lazy people are about a single extra click.

NAYRT

That makes sense, thanks! I always retweet before I QRT. But I still suck at Twitter, so I was worried I was still doing it wrong.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
…who cares? My fannish engagement doesn’t exist to generate internet points for someone else?

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
If the person you're taking views from is an artist selling their work or looking for work, they need people to be able to find them easily. People are lazy and not everyone will go hunting for an artist or creator that someone else posts work from.

^^ This

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This is fandom. Fandom is, by definition, noncommercial. If someone is trying to make money off of it, it is sure as hell not my job to help them.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-13 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT--people can and do commission artists for original work based on liking their fanart.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, well again, not my job to drum up support for businesses?

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Those nails are really goddamn fugly. Urgh

........quote tweeting still shows the original post? I'm confused.

I do think it's kinda shitty not to somehow link art back to the artist, but you do you.

It's because if you QT OP misses out on likes (most people don't click through).

I still think it's a bit daft for people to get upset about being QT-ed, because it's not plagiarism or obscuring who the creator is, but it's not *completely* irrational.

Oh I see. I usually click through to see what else an interesting artist has.
You're right, it's definitely not plagiarism, but there is a ton of art out there with zero link back to the artist and that I don't approve of. Artists need their recognition like everyone else, and deserve it for their time and creativity.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
...that sounds like your just doing this to be mean. Maybe rethink who you're 'sticking it to'.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-12 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Just don't retweet at all.

It's not your responsibility to boost an artist's engagement and if you don't want your TL full of retweets, that's fair.

However, the watermark thing is irrelevant.

People want retweets/likes/comments because the more engagement they get on a tweet, the more people get shown the tweet. The Twitter algorithm is horse shit, so oftentimes even followers don't see a new most.

You sound like a huge asshole lol. Though I imagine my saying this won't change your behaviour in any way!
