I don't know if this is what you mean but it's kinda strange to me when fans are super protective over a free fan translation of a work and think if you provide corrections or dare to criticize it, you're a bad person.

If the translator acts like that sure. If other fans are criticising it in general it's obnoxious as hell. Providing corrections is a grey area where it really depends on whether those corrections are actually accurate.

The first time I was recced that translation the first mention of it on their website was a snitty post about how they were no longer translating the manga because 'we put in one joke panel and god your too sensitive we're taking it all down!'

Plus apparently complaining about other people translating bits and pieces of the novel without starting from the very first chapter and working all the way to the end?

Idk, everything I've seen about them screams high school dramatics

Yeah I know what you mean. I read it because they were the only group with a full translation at the time but a lot of their antics rubbed me the wrong way. Like, I know it's kind of an unwritten rule to not pick up a novel for translation while another group is still actively working on it but the way the lead translator acted (with this "This novel is my baby and I don't trust anyone else with it" attitude) kind of invited more/harsher criticism than it would have if she'd gone about it in a different way. Especially if the translations isn't as flawless as they like to think.

The thing with the manhua though... I kinda get it? They put in a XueXiao joke panel and antis lost their shit and sent them threats for it etc. so I understand why they dropped it after that.

In general though... the group got a lot of hate by self-proclaimed "anti fujoshis" who called them homophobic and fetishisers for translating wife as, you know, wife and stupid shit like that so I get a little defensive of them, even though I wasn't a huge fan of the translation and the group's theatrics myself.
