I have unreasonable hostility against the "Hermione is black and you're racist if she isn't" people because I'd been headcanoning her as Ashkenazi Jewish since CoS came out. Hi black people aren't the only ones who have hair angst! And it was really the first time I'd ever met a character whose relationship with her "bushy" brown hair felt familiar!

But no hdi think my "white Hermione" headcanon is more important than having her be canonically black.

I don't think there's anything unreasonable about your hostility.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-22 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Except there is, but at least they're aware of it. Getting hostile because other headcanons don't align with yours is absurd.

No, what's absurd is calling someone a racist because their head canon doesn't align with yours. Reacting to that accusation with some hostility may be somewhat counterproductive, but it's not unreasonable.

Oh I'm not disagreeing with that, because the "and you're racist for not headcanoning Hermione as black" people suck.

If AYRT had just left it at "I have hostility towards people calling me racist for not agreeing with their headcanons" then they would be completely justified. And they still are in that regard.

It's that they admit that most of their hostility towards these people is not because of the more obvious toxic anti behavior, but because they already had a different headcanon that makes them defensive to differing opinions.

The fact that they're aware of how unreasonable that is, and how silly the whole thing would be if antis didn't make everything worse, is why I don't think anyone should hold it against AYRT. People are allowed to be unreasonable in the way they feel, especially if they're not hurting anyone. And they're absolutely not hurting a single person with their headcanon, but are up against people who want to hurt people to defend THEIR headcanons.

I apologize for not being clear in my first response that this is what I meant. Because while the reason for the hostility is a bit unreasonable, the hostility in general towards the people calling others racist over headcanons is absolutely valid and founded. And even though the reason for being hostile isn't the best obvious reason, OP's still completely fine and experiencing a natural part of relating to characters in written media.

hi-5 from a fellow white person with extremely bushy curly hair. I thought it was nice to see a character that had hair like mine, because usually when you see characters with curly hair in fiction, it's the nice, neat, perfect smooth ringlets kind, not the kind that looks like you stuck your finger in a socket.

it's so refreshing to see different flavor of white character.

DA. Yes, representation matters to all kinds. Girls with bushy hair, or scarred faces, or pot bellies, can also feel underserved by the type of woman Hollywood typically displays even if they have race in common.

I hope for your sake you're a troll.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-22 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
i 100% absolutely guarantee that you're white as milk.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-22 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one who can tell with pretty high certainty that AYRT was being sarcastic?

(Anonymous) 2021-08-22 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
No? It's pretty obvious? Everyone else noticed as well, they just think they're an asshole for suggesting white girls who get bullied for their frizzy hair or white Jewish people don't deserve representation. And AYRT points out that a lot of "lol dumb whitey" comments on the internet come from lily white people temselves who play literal white knights.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-22 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao what? Thinking your headcanon is more important than canon is childish and entitled. That's agreed upon as bad fandom etiquette no matter what type of headcanon it is.
