I mean I don't remember shipping fandom jumping all over the original live action Avatar movie either, they just continued on shipping the animated versions all this time

Not to say there isn't racism in fandom spaces (there is), but with the rise of C-Drama, K-Drama and Kpop, I don't think that a majority of fandom is inherently unattracked to Asian faces?

That said, I personally have zero interest in this show so far. But that has less to do with the actors and more with a general apathy for live action adaptions for things that work arguably better as animation.

Or maybe it's because a large number of vocal zutarians are rabid antis, and Katara's actress is 15 while Zuko's actor is 20, which obviously makes the entire ship absolutely impossible, predatory, sus and pedofilic.

They are not particularly attractive actors to be fair. Especially compared to the many Chinese and Korean actors who fandom perves over. I don't think this is a racism issue, OP.

I have no horse in this race, having never seen the show or (apparently shittastic) earlier movie, but these actors look pretty enough to me. I assume the characters are being aged up for this adaptation, though, since they don't look like young teens.

Nah, I think the Zutara fandom will activate once the actual show arrives. Working from random cast photos of nobodies isn't really prime material for fandom stuff.

While it's good they're not going with white actors this time, I'm still a bit disappointed that they still went for the whitest looking indigenous actors rather than attempting to match the characters looks a little better.

That's a pretty lightened photo of Kiawenti:io Tarbell - take a look at her in Anne with an E. And I don't think she's particuarly white-looking in her features.

And where even were all these Zutarians gloating about Zutara being canon before the cast was revealed? All the Zutarians I know have accepted that it'll never be canon because canon sucks and their fics are better so they never gave a shit about the live action show to begin with.

I thought maybe there was a chance they'd go with it if they cast the characters' ages as they were in the animated show, but they cast Katara as a teen (15 I think?) and Zuko as an adult (20?) so shipping it like that would feel kind of weird (if they were still animated, maybe but they're IRL people) so I know it's not going to happen.
