there's a huge difference between someone helping someone else manage their finances and what was happening to britney. it's possible (i've not kept up with the current trend of media exploiting the exploitation of britney) the conservatorship was started with good intentions but they are clearly extremely difficult to get out of, and there needs to be far better oversight keeping those in the guardian role from overstepping.

and frankly if she goes a bit hogwild with her freedom for a bit i can't blame her, she was posting nudes on insta as a way to prove no one but her is managing it anymore, and good for her, tbh

This is an invite to my Monsters and Kafka server. Please point to a single bad decision she's made that it so drastically out there and worse than any other celeb/wealthy young person going through a tough time that it would warrant her rights as an autonomous adult being restricted.

If she's not a great money manager, she can hire a financial advisor. If she has a mental health difficulty, she can see a therapist. Celebrities have teams to help them manage their lives and wealth, and SHE should be allowed to do this as SHE sees fit, as SHE is the one who earned the money to begin with.

Nicholas Cage is currently broke and has to act in any crappy movie offered to him to keep afloat, yet no one talks about getting a court appointed guardian for him. Shia le Beouf and Joaquin Phoenix behave strangely, but no one tries to lock them up and take over their lives. Johnny Depp has bought all sorts of expensive nonsense, lost $650 million dollars and his personal life is a fucking mess, but no conservatorship for him. Why is Britney so different?

The baby-dangling was irresponsible, but god thankfully it was only done once (to the best of my knowledge), and also I blame the constant paparazzi hounding for it. I consider the negative impacts of constant media attention on him as detrimental as they were for Brittney Spears.

PTSD and childhood trauma are hell, and I think I give him a lot of credit as a fellow person who's been in a bad place. The one thing I don't agree with him about is the decision to own a chimpanzee as a pet, but I think that was from a time when people didn't fully understand that it was a bad thing to keep a primate as a pet. If it's other rich people stuff that doesn't affect any other lives, then I don't mind.

we were consumers until around 1990 when the first genxers reached their 20s and a position of being creators and producers, and even then most of us weren't old enough to do more than music and teen acting till the 00s. otherwise yeah you've got it right.

the thing is, this "generation war" thing is wholly made up and a lot of what the media considers millennial is actually genx (or on the young side, genz, because ffs millenials aren't teenagers right now) and the lines are blurred and there really is very little such thing as a generation having overwhelming influence on culture due to their age. sure, there are some pockets, but like you say, the 20-somethings making groundbreaking, genre-shattering music in the 90s didn't do it out of a generational mentality. we were already tired of the media labeling those lazy kids Generation X as in lost, forgotten, unremarkable, so we did shit out of our cynical fuck the system mentality.

I lost where I was going. I agree with you! but I'm so goddamn tired of this fake generation war. If the definition of pop culture is people in their 20s either making it or consuming it, our ship done sailed and that's fine.
