Games thread!

Huh. This is intereseting. I definitely feel like the general public moves quickly from one thing to another like OP says, but I haven't noticed the same thing in fandom itself.

It's the opposite for me! Put them side by side and I'm like "yeah, same nose shape, same eye shape," etc. But separately, I can always tell who's who

I don't think things need to be groundbreaking to be good social commentaries or interesting to watch.

Your favourite crossover fics or fic ideas

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2021-10-16 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the idea of crossover fics. When they're done well they're excellent, but so often they feel like someone just took two (or more) fandoms and forced them together, whether they fit or not.

So share with me your favourite crossovers that you think really do work. They can be actual fics you want to rec, scenarios you enjoy, or just ideas that have been running around in your head.

So all the docs I'm texting are 2nd POV FICS (which while supposedly self insert, Y/N is essentially an OC)

Jayhawk by TheKillerCamero
(Mind the tags and all that, WIP)

It mixes My Hero Academia/B HA with the Hunger Games. Sadly, it's not finished :/ but I really like the concept and the way the author was integrating the two worlds.

There's another fic writer (while I was on a Kylo binge) that took the characters and placed them in
1. The Handmaid's Tale (that was fucked up, but so good. I can share links if anyone is interested)
2. Sabrina (yes, the Audrey Hepburn/ Humphrey Bogart movie)

Oops

Misfire, sorry.

Wow, the reply to my secret-maker post got made into the secret?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-16 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Its premise is not (I would also compare it to Kaiji), but it's different in its own ways enough to leave an impact. It also has what I would consider a larger, if not different, demographic, so not all folks watching it may be familiar with those other works.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-16 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that just the nature of pop culture, though?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-16 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I never mistake them for each other, but I do find them unusually similar. Petit men with squarish faces, the same eye color, similar nose and eye shape, a certain sort of bright intensity to their facial expressions, and a kind of eternal boyishness that remains well into adulthood despite the fact that they both have the sort of strong jaw, brow, and nose that would usually prohibit them from looking boyish in that way.

It's not that they look incredibly alike per se, but they evoke an oddly similar feeling when you look at them.

It’s the patchy facial hair and general aura of ‘needs a hug.’

With series like Squid Game, I wish they'd drop weekly. Mare of Easttown actually had a fandom on reddit and it was super fun to engage with episode discussions, because a whodunnit really works better when people have a chance to chat about who dun it!

https://www.reddit.com/r/MareofEasttown/ is the subreddit.

I've binged several shows and enjoyed them, but some really should drop weekly to build the buzz, IMO.
