The "oh but it USED to be acceptable now I'm being ~*problematic*~ for it" is just as sanctimonious and annoying as the people who cry pedophilia at aged up pairings.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not really, considering only one of the two gets potentially doxxed and sent death threats and only one of the two has started to water down a serious crime/accusation to the point you can't take it seriously anymore.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
This! And that's no the only serious RL issue that they have watered down.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
On the other hand, the other of the two sides has at times created photo edits of child actors playing their fictional faves, or just happen to resemble their perfect casting, which are at times indistinguishable from CP.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
How many have actually done that compared to the people who didn't and were driven to the brink of suicide by antis though? Hint: Not a lot.
No matter how hard you try, this will NEVER be a matter of "Both sides are equally bad".

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The answer to this question might surprise you, but it's actually the opposite to what you think. Every single underage content creator I've ever talked to, or witnessed talking about it, said that they were negatively affected by NSFW fanworks of themselves growing up. Just because you aren't personally friends with these people, so you don't get to experience the effect it has on people you care about, doesn't mean that their experiences don't matter, or are somehow rare. So if your point is that the price for not having any child see porn of themselves is to have a few people driven to the bring of suicide, because the thought of not being allowed to openly comment on how hot they find a real living 12 year old girl's ass, is oppressing their freeze peach, then it's a fair price in my eyes. We aren't talking about fiction, we're talking about RPF, and whatever you like to imagine, these days RPF is made of almost any kid with a youtube account and more than 100 followers on twitter.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah in this era of the internet, parents can't be bothered to talk to their kids about online safty so no everyone has to baby-proof the internets because WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
What online safety tip do you propose to stop a child from having their twitter or tumblr account tagged on porn of themselves? Delete any and all social media accounts? Or maybe... we could give this advice to all the adults who make porn of real living breathing children?

Are you the same weirdo who was having meltdowns about porn of real children EVERYWHERE in another thread a week or so back? Because you spend all your time in fandoms that revolve around teenage internet celebrities? (I think the whole nature of adults being obsessed with that is a little bit sketch whether you're making porn or not, to be honest) How old are you, and why are you "friends" with so many kids, and why are you applying what you see there to people writing about fictional characters, which is what most people here are talking about?

Were we even talking about RPF? There was nothing in the secret that indicated that.

Honestly, I think fandoms that revolve around adults forming parasocial relationships with teenagers is creepy as hell in and of itself, porn or no porn. I'm not going near that shit, and I'll continue to ignore the existence of fandoms like that because I think they're much weirder in a seriously unpleasant way than anybody's FPF omegaverse scatplay incesty dub-con fic. And I'll continue to be annoyed when anyone of any age gets puritanical about FPF content.

"We aren't talking about fiction, we're talking about RPF

...The secret explicitly states it's about fiction. It's about a Fictional character ship. Don't conflate the two just to 'win' this argument.

I distinctly remember the Stranger Things kids asking people not to ship them with their co-stars, because they didn't like it/made them uncomfortable, and a whole bunch of adults throwing shitfits and acting like they were being oppressed because KIDS didn't want porn of themselves shoved in their faces.

So it happens, and yes it's equally bad when it's about real people.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
+1

Most "pedophilia" accusations in fandom these days are about shipping people who don't even exist.

That is fucking terrible, because there ARE actually cases where people in fandom are really in real life creeping on real life kids in their social circles, and social media has been so cluttered with the former that "pedophilia" is just an anti code word now, and most people's eyes glaze over when they see it. (Mine sure do)

So what word would you use to point out someone who's a real danger to real children? We keep losing words to watered-down meanings.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I see this accusation thrown around all the time. Is there any documentation of how common this is?

Because everybody yells about "antis are doxxing and sending death threats all the time", and I can only think of like two anecdotal cases. I've seen tons of dog piling in fandom (especially on twitter) over all sorts of things, but that is not the same as doxxing.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-08 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
I haven’t personally seen much of it either, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen regularly out of our sights.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-08 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT. For sure. My anecdotal evidence is equal to someone else's anecdotal evidence. I would just like some idea of how common it is, instead of being given a piece (or a few pieces of anecdotal evidence).

Here's a fanartist who's been facing harassment for about 7 months on end. She was stalked and creep-shotted in person at a con: https://twitter.com/sanr10cr4zy/status/1468136919330856960

Comments about harassing her and spitting on her work (real nice in a pandemic) https://twitter.com/BakugouHitoshi/status/1468162077823057923

Here's a nice comment about sneaking a gun into a con to kill her: https://twitter.com/peachiiepiiez/status/1468283792267882512

Fortunately con security is aware of the situation.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-08 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

That’s horrifying! I’m so glad con security is aware!

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
No, it really isn't. Fandom is ridiculously puritanical these days.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don’t buy that at all.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
If that's sanctimonious, then I'm happy to help! Fandom was better back in the day, sorry you had to miss it by not being born yet. https://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/2523548.html?thread=1076875932#cmt1076875932

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
I definitely don't miss the times back in the day, when slash writers had to trigger warn for same-sex relationships, and would sometimes put disclaimers that they don't support gay relationships in real life, so they wouldn't be bullied and called mentally-ill in the comments. Or the times, when it wasn't unusual for a fic to end every chapter with a short funny scene of the female character dying in various ways. Or all the comments bitching about a black actor being cast in the role of a character clearly described as black in the book.

The fandom was just as judgemental "back then" as it is today, it's just that the judgement was directed against different things than now, and people usually built separate communities around kinks, so they didn't interact much with the rest of the fandom.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I do miss those days. There seemed to be so much more fun around fandom and less treating everything like serious business.

Anonette: Well I just think all you other Anons are The Worst Scum out there for taking joy in pai...[anvil slam].

Anon/Anon taking a break from making out: Damn, that is horrible. With Anonette dead, who is gonna clean up all the mess.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
?? This is a weird comment.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-07 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
