Am I the ONLY one who actually liked Rose/Ten? XD

(Anonymous) 2021-12-09 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. It was only you all along!

(Anonymous) 2021-12-09 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah you're totally the only one who liked one of the most popular ships in the whole franchise
philstar22: (Daleks feel pretty)

It was a popular ship back in the day. I loathed it right from the beginning.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, most of my friends liked them together.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind Rose/Ten.
I thought they were cute together in a bratty way.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
No, there were a lot of people who completely adored it. (Up to and including shipping different characters that those actors have played.)

But, unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. Rose/Ten seems like an All In Or All Out kind of deal.

(I'm glad you were having fun with it, though.)

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, Rose is the only time I've ever felt like a Doctor/companion ship worked romantically for me... I loved her with Nine, and then I loved how the relationship developed when he regenerated into Ten. I wasn't into Eleven in general but I probably would have liked her with Twelve or Thirteen in theory.

I do totally get some of the reasons some people loathe the ship, but I enjoyed them.

I liked Rose/Ten, not as much as Rose/Nine, but I was on board. Then RTD wouldn't let the ship go after Rose left and Ten's pining got old real fast.

It's kind of weird to me how many people still apparently hold deep, deep anti-RTD grudges on here. It's funny because I haven't seen - at least on here - any pro-RTD posts, it's purely people saying they still hate RTD. And not just that they still hate RTD but they hate him enough that they want the show to crash and burn so they can mock people who enjoyed RTD's earlier run. That appears to be the consensus.

And, I mean, of course not everyone is going to like RTD. That's just a fact. I think at this point it's been conclusively shown that it's impossible to make Doctor Who that everyone loves. So, good for you, I guess.

everyone has their personal opinions. He's my least favorite showrunner. But even if I loved him, I don't want the show moving backwards. I love Moffatt, and I would not want him brought back as showrunner.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-09 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, of course everyone is entitled to their personal opinions. No one has to like RTD. I'm not sure that appointing RTD necessarily means going backwards - the landscape of television has changed dramatically since 2005 and RTD has basically done nothing but make critically acclaimed shows since leaving the show the first time, so I think it could be really interesting to see how he adapts.

But no matter what he does, whether he succeeds or he fails, of course it's not going to be to everyone's taste. It's not surprising to me that some people wouldn't want RTD back. What's surprising to me is how simultaneously vituperative and one-sided it is. A lot of it is also people who seem to be still really angry at Moffat not being popular - and, just as you say that everyone has their own personal opinions, people are allowed not to like Moffat.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
In my experience, the anti-Moffat movement back in the day was also extremely vituperative and one-sided--to the point that I had to disengage from the fandom entirely and still can't bring myself to actually interact, it was so ubiquitous. Even nice things about other eras were always tinged with a "remember when DW was actually good lol" note. It sucked.

So my feelings on RTD's return are, yeah, partially fueled by bitterness about how awful that time was, and partially remembering all the things I hadn't enjoyed about RTD's writing that fandom at the time made it impossible to talk about. Now that the pendulum has swung the other way, it's a relief, honestly.

(And there's always been a "they changed it, now it sucks" quotient to new showrunners, but modern fandom makes everything worse)

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, of course it's true that the anti-Moffat movement was vituperative - I think the fandom got very vicious in general for a good while (and I think the Sherlock crossover element made the whole thing a lot worse). But I also think that it's basically a good thing that time has passed and it's gotten less bitter and venomous. I enjoy the ability to talk about different peoples' runs on the shows with nuance and acknowledge that we like or dislike different eras of the show, which is why it's weird and kind of a bummer for so many people to treat it as their opportunity to finally destroy RTD and his fans once and for all.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I hate him because he allowed horrible abuses to happen on his watch. I think that's a pretty legit reason to hate him and not want him back to let it happen again.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
This.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
TPTB at the BBC backed Barrowman through that entire mess, so you shouldn't be watching anything they're involved with anymore.

Not AYRT

But I don’t. So if this was supposed to be some kind of gotcha that you didn’t expect anyone would actually do, then it doesn’t work.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
DA, but why would you even give a fuck about what’s happening on DW if you’re ignoring it on principle? You can waste your time however you want, but you’ve chosen a particularly pointless way to do it.

I don't, either, but I also like. Don't want the guy who also defended it and let it happen returning to cause more harm, so shove those gotchas up your ass and choke on it.

+100

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, there'll always be a side of the fandom that thinks whatever the latest thing Doctor Who does has ruined the show forever. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years we get a reappraisal of the Chibnall era, if only because some of the hate is so over the top. So you'll probably get your wish if you go looking for it.

That being said, I quite liked It's A Sin and ADORED Cucumber and Banana, so I'm genuinely really intrigued about what RTD does with Doctor Who this next time. I do hope that he only stays for, like, 2 or 3 seasons, however, so that we can get a younger showrunner in relatively soon and he can maybe go handle a spinoff or something.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-10 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty neutral on RTD returning since I don't really care about the showrunner, just the content. They've all created episodes I've loved and episodes I've hated.

I'm cautiously pessimistic about it. Yes, I mean pessimistic. Like, I'm not expecting it to be great but I'll give it a shot. I just hope he does something completely fresh and doesn't lean on his previous seasons, although I don't imagine we'll completely escape mentions or cameos of things related to Rose.
