This reminds me of those feminist posts arguing that when a female character gets raped or murdered, the focus tends to be on the emotional reaction of her lover or relative. And I’ve seen nonwhite characters killed off primarily so white dudes can feel sad.

I mean, this really does depend on execution. If canon covers the main character's reaction to the trauma and people want to write fic about how other characters handled it while the original focus was on the person most central to it, then that's one thing. I think that's fine?

Which part of the X-Files are you referring to? I mean, Mulder's pain over his sister's abduction was definitely focused on (sometimes to a relentless and obnoxious degree), but I feel like in that case, the complete absence of Samantha made it less of a glaring issue.

I'm trying to think of situations in which Scully's trauma was made about Mulder more than about Scully herself. I guess when she was abducted. But again, she was absent (and had to be absent due to GA's pregnancy, so the focus had to be on Mulder by default.

I'm not saying you're wrong. Mulder was frequently petulant, morose, and self-involved, and in general I do feel like the show focused too much on him and his feelings. I'm just trying to think of which specific instances you're talking about.

I wouldn't mind so much (in fanfic) if it were tagged/summarized properly. If I'm looking for H/C of one character and it focuses completely on the other, it's kind of annoying. Also, I tend to like the strong but silent half of the OTP so it's my own fault. People always woobify the nerdy talkative one, and focus on their pain, regardless of who's been injured.

This has been happening for a few years in the canon of a long-term fandom I've been in since 2004. Basically, there's this new inexplicably popular character, who has basically been co-opting the tragic backstories of numerous other characters. Like, another (formerly important) character's dead mom was now also a mother figure for the new character. Flashbacks to the dead mom are all about the new character now. A different character's dead almost-boyfriend was now also one of the new character's best friends, and this connection has apparently turned more narratively important.

And it's not even just other characters' tragic backstories this new character keeps overtaking, it's also the plot roles and competence levels that others used to have.

I'm so tired of it.

YMMV but I always find it so strange when people praise the dude's acting in this because I couldn't get over how this guy wasn't allowed to move his face while everyone else emoted like regular human beings. It was weird as hell.

I've had the original Spyro trilogy since PS1 through to today, it's still a great play. When we first started my best friend and I would tag team games - she was great at the flying challenges, bosses, etc. I was better at exploring and finding 100% of the gems. Anyway, this was also the age when we were discovering cursing, and we ended up nicknaming so many character whose names we didn't bother looking into. The Egg Thief will always be "Egg Bastard" to me. We thought we were so metal.

Yeah, I also used to like her videos, especially the craft kits test videos. But now most of the time it's just click bait bullshit. She already knew the TiKTok blind bags were garbage, so why buy more? Because putting "I bought 1000 whatever" sadly gets clicks, but I still think she should be better than this.
