I have such mix feelings about her death - mostly because in the latter years I hated her; not just for her particular 'contributions' towards fandom, but how badly her books depicted POC and that who mess with describing an intersex character in Blackwood Farm in addition to so many other issues I had with her and her writing.

With all that said, the Vampire Chronicles were the first books I retreated into when I was an bullied 12 year old baby gay trying to find queer characters that I could relate to when there was absolutely nothing for my age group (very early 2000s in the UK had this belief that being gay was a life style choice that should absolutely not involve children in any way, even if those kids were questioning themselves or not sticking to 'the norm'). I got very attached to the relationship dynamics, characters like Louis and just enjoying vampires before being able to go online and discover fan forums/fandoms.

idk - I'm not sad or anything, but still condolences for her loved ones. I was a little surprised that I didn't really see anything pop up about her on any of my social media accounts with the exception of one elder goth I follow who was just paying respects. I guess its fitting to see the hate here tbh lol.

Oh no, someone paying their respects by sharing their own personal feelings about the deceased, and sharing their experiences with their work! The narcissism! The audacity!

Seriously, what crawled up your ass and died? This is a completely normal way of reacting to the death of someone, especially artist whose work the person has history with. Relating personal experiences isn’t as big of a deal as you seem to think it is.

If this is all to takes to make you aghast, I’d recommend staying away from the tribute section of social media or any news outlet after a celebrity dies. You’d have a conniption.

I admit I don’t get where hate for her comes from either. She used to be a nuisance when it came to fanfic, sure. But that didn’t translate to hate for me, or thinking she was a bad person. And she changed her tune about fanfic over the years anyways(as far as letting it be, while still not wanting to read it. Which is understandable). So if that was the only reason someone hated her, I don’t understand still holding onto that.

I know why they hate her. I meant the general hate for her that, that seems to so commonly go beyond just being annoyed with her fanfic antics. I know cease and desists are no laughing matter, so I’m not surprised that she’s unpopular in the fanfic community(which I’m part of). But turning it into the view that she’s an all around terrible person? That I don’t get.

Oh it wasn't just fanfiction - I made the mistake of reading her books again as an adult and felt a bit revolted with some of her choices (for racism the list is endless; and in Blackwood Farm her idea of showing that an intersex is intersex - strip them naked to reveal ~the genitals~ and have a character bite into their groin to become a vampire because would not), especially the way she encouraged her fans to go after anyone who criticized her work on social media.

Maybe hate was too strong a word since I haven't really cared about her in very recent years - but yeah.

yeah I hated her - this is an anon comm where people loses their shit over various fandoms. My past feelings aren't going to evaporate and its not like I'm letting her families know how much I disliked her.
