He's not being 'deleted' or whatever is the term. He's just disliked.
I also dislike the term rich white guy as if rich white girl or rich asian person implies a completely different set of circumstances.

Confused here

Is... OP arguing that Pratt's been cancelled? I don't see that in the secret.

"...as if rich white girl or rich asian person implies a completely different set of circumstances."

Uh... doesn't it? I mean, the common denominator is "rich" but the other differences can be quite significant.

But all three of those terms come with privilege (rich, white, and guy) and that's the point. Changing any of those does change circumstances.

It does, in fact, imply a completely different set of circumstances. Misogyny and racism don't just up and evaporate above a certain income threshold.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure why you think celebs would be more resistant to predatory groups and individuals, if anything given how predatory Hollywood can be behind the scenes I'm not surprised that it's talent get yanked into all sorts of stupid and dangerous groups. Money and fame doesn't give you a greater protection against this shit and bless them but a lot of celebs also come off as... rather dim.

No one's immune to manipulation sadly, not even otherwise smart individuals.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? Where does it say that OP believes celebrities are "more resistant to predatory groups and individuals"? The secret seems to suggest the opposite.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate to tell you he's already radicalized. He associates with the 3%ers. https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/three-percenters

If you check who he follows on Instagram the man is following people that actively are working against our democracy. Don't know what to tell you, anon, the boat has sailed.

A "boomer in a young man's body"? What a ridiculous implication, that younger people can never be assholes, only those of a certain age?

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
There are different styles of being assholes, though. Not all assholes are assholes in the same way.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
This. If we can't accept that bigotry isn't actually generational, we can't actually fix shit going forward.

They did not say that young people can never be assholes. They’re saying he acts like the same kind of asshole that make up the stereotypical(but still real and observable) Conservative baby boomer. They’re saying that he acts like the same kind of person despite being too young to be a boomer. Not that only boomers can be assholes. They’re saying his brand of dickishness is old-fashioned compared to the kind of dick that makes up the stereotypes of his own generation.

If you still think that’s a distinction that you don’t like or agree with, fine. That’s fair. But that is specifically what OP meant, and what most people mean when they call someone a boomer when they’re not(not counting the much younger people who probably think everyone older than them is a boomer because they don’t understand generations). I know certain anons here get really pissed at that joke too, but there’s no real denying that there’s a reason that stereotypes based on baby boomers exist. And I don’t get why it’s such a big deal to point out when someone is acting like those stereotypes, even if it can be dumb. No one is being literal, it’s just a meme.

...Isn't he connected and good friends with a white supremacist brother??? Kinda feels a wee bit too late.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
a white supremacist brother?! now i've seen everything

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I hope he goes off the rails and says a bunch of stupid shit, landing him in the Kirk Cameron category.

It's not like there aren't other bland actors just like Pratt who'd love his career.

I once made a secret how much the giant cross weirded me out and the response was extremely mild "he can do what he wants it's his land". Now I'm equally weirded out by people who don't bat an eyelid at shit like this.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I remember that secret. There was some people who agreed wit you, but it was bit weird how the general response was. Especially because you never said he shouldn’t be allowed to do what he wants with his land. Just that what he chose to put there seemed a tad fanatical.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I remember that secret too. I was one of the people who said that the stick cross was ugly, and represented nothing actually good about his own personal character.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I think that yeah, it's obviously his land and he can do whatever he wants with it... but it's still weird, IMO. Big displays of religiosity make me uncomfortable and wary because I've learned to distrust the sort of people who make those claims in such a public way. There's usually hypocrisy involved.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, if it were just this cross thing I still wouldn't be all that fussed beyond the initial, "Huh, Pratt is weirdly religious." To be honest, as a non-American, "weirdly religious" describes a lot of the US for me, so I've learned to take that in stride.

The other stuff that's coming in out in the comments today, like being a 3%er, now that shit is actually concerning.

I mean honestly, if I had that kind of money I'd build a grotto to the Virgin Mary on my property and hang out in it all the time. If anything I'm annoyed by how boring his big, showy, display of faith is.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
If he can't take a small amount of mild criticism without being radicalised, there's something very wrong with him. Everyone else puts up with criticism all the time, why should we think about the feelings of Christian* fundies we don't know? If someone close to you is being radicalised, there's things you can do which include listening without judgement and keeping the door open for them to talk to you. This totally doesn't apply to how we should talk about some random American celebrity who likes to make grand gestures.

*Not just Christian but in this case.

really hope he hasn't made donations to anti-democracy white supremacist groups. the thought of these groups getting large donations from rich people is scary. these groups need to be investigated and their financial donors exposed.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-17 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well if he's getting radicalised by negative internet comments then he would have got radicalised by something else if the comments weren't there - becasue that's really not a great trauma that has to affect your viewpoint. The comment section of a random site is not that influenial.
