Seriously, though, I'm a big fan of the IP, and IMHO it did look pretty good. The reason the fandom is up in arms is because the creators admitted it would not follow canon, and would be its own continuity entirely. It's not unlike what the MCU or even the LOTR films did, with disregarding some canon to compress it, and have more creative freedom for the medium.

For crying out loud. A part of me wonders if the comic fandom threw a similar shitfit when the official MCU diverted from comics.

Same! I just am generally unbothered by what a lot of people call "low quality" (like the wigs in cdramas lol). It often has to be pointed out to me to even realize something looks iffy.

You could maybe commission someone who does landscapes, including sci-fi and fantasy, that is outside of your fandom! Scenes, landscapes, and cityscapes have artists that specialize. They're not as common, because, like you said, people prefer character art. But they exist!

I would have to dig through my follows to find a few. However, if you ever get an urge for this kind of commission, I encourage you to look, because these artists are around!

(One of my favorite artists when I was younger was someone who started out in One Piece fandom and gradually changed to mostly fantasy-esque and other landscapes. I feel like I need to tap some of my favorite non-fandom artists and let them know that they have a whole untapped audience out there that would pay for their works if they could just figure out how to market their art to people who aren't...trying to decorate their houses or fill a gallery I guess.

I got super into a pairing this year. The pairing's heyday seems to have been ~4 years ago, but there's recently been a flood of new fans (like me).

The BNF for this ship who has written the biggest body of work for the pairing, including almost ALL the top kudos'd fic, no longer really produces content for the ship anymore and clearly has new ships/fandoms she's fixating on, but keeps on complaining that people seem to think she's left the fandom in a way that comes off as "boohoo, people no longer treat me like the ship Big Deal that I am."

But like... you don't read (or at least interact with) 95% of the content people have put out for this ship in the past year? The 5% of content you do interact with is all from mutuals who you're on a first-name basis with? And the only recognition you give to anyone else in the fandom is vague-blogging that "the characterization of recent works is off." (I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. It's 100% in line with things you've written.)

Like, go ahead and don't consume anything but please don't complain that people seem to have forgotten you're still here. Also, now it's my goal to surpass you in terms of output and kudos for my works for this ship. You've got 32 works and 4 years on me but by god I will supplant you.

I feel so bitchy making this secret, but at least it's off my chest!

I mostly agree with this, in that if you would call the character manipulative if you didn't know what ~class they belonged to, their ~class shouldn't change that. But...I've become very skeptical about how people use terms like "manipulative" and when they do so *shrug*. Like I actually think "canon manipulative" involves a lot more interpretation (of tropes, or social mores, of authorial intent) than you think.

I'll also say that for manipulative characters in particular, there is a range in which I judge usage. Like is this character manipulative of systems or people? All the time or only to people with power over them or only to people with no power? Is it character or circumstance? Is it trauma or personality? When you say manipulative do you mean it derogatorily or admiringly?

For instance in the queen's thief series, if you say Gen is manipulative, I would agree because even when he's fucking with people for the right reasons, he is also doing it for fun! But if you say Irene or Kamet is manipulative, then....I'm the gif where the man folds his arms angrily and then throws up his arms and says "I guess" angrily, because they're in constant precarious circumstances and their manipulations are straight up survival mechanisms based on social class and gender. It feels quite different to call them manipulative even when they are.

I enjoyed it too (messy as it was), but they could've cut out so much and it probably would have been better. Like the whole side plot with Vinder and Bel and that snake guy, plus that lady that was Dan's friend. Why were they even there? I liked Professor Jericho, but what a waste of an awesome character to have him go out like that. Wish Kate could've had a bigger role in the story.

Also, did I miss something or is most of the universe still destroyed? I was under the impression that they were gonna reverse the Flux and restore the universe, but it wasn't mentioned that they did.
