I have a shitty family. I wish there was one person in the immediate family who's nice. (At least I know how to act like a decent person.) No, since my grandmother died, which was a long time ago - no-one.

Just had another bust-up with the sister I was still talking to. I thought, "I'll go along and do the decent thing" but no. I lasted less than five minutes.

I think it was William Gibson who said, "Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, surrounded by assholes." How right he was. I wonder what my life had been if I'd had a kind family? Or even a halfway decent one?

I feel you. I'm only in contact with my brother and even that's sporadic because... I just cannot? I'm tired of being the family punching bag. But I do wonder what I'd be like if my family had loved and supported me instead of neglected and belittled and tore me down at every chance they had.

ayrt "family punching bag" says it so well. And really, what's the point of that behaviour? I can't fathom it at all.

Glad you've got some contact with your brother, though.
