I'm sorry people made you so self-conscious about being a fan, OP. I've worn fandom stuff since I was in my teens and it was *really* hard to find (a Vampire: The Masquerade t-shirt, in fact!) and nobody has ever had a negative reaction. I'm now in my 40s and fandom is so much more mainstream now, nobody blinks at my Wonder Woman shirt.

OP

I'm so glad you can fan out like that! I think people tend to be more... accepting? Of classic comic book/the current MCU/DC (even Trekkies and SW to an extent), hell GoT, fan merch as if it's a collective cultural zeitgeist (I suppose in a way it is) whereas I think (in my experience) anime was relegated to Saturday morning cartoons (Sailor Moon/Pokemon/Card Captor) and late night cable (Adult Swim). The "classics" were definitely far reaching. Superman started as a comic strip in the papers. It's generational. Anime in the US (where I'm located) came in later. Still a big thing and far more mainstream than before though :)
