Hey, I went through a similar thing: I was wearing contacts for more than six years. When I got back into the Les Miserables fandom, I got these little, oval glasses and dealt with the dizzy and the zero periphery because Combeferre and Joly wear glasses. However, this might also partially be because I got into the French Revolution fandom and a certain Revolutionary wore cute glasses. I will never, ever be able to tell my parents if this is so.
