Agreed to your points and I would like to suscribe to your musicals ideas list.

There were rights issues with the Company revival. I can't remember whether it was with Sondheim or with Furth's estate, but one of the two was really against having the character of Bobby/Bobbie be gay but didn't really have a problem with any of the other characters having their sexualities changed. Since the original show was two gay men basically commentating on the world of straight romance, I can kind of see it - I mostly just think that the changes in the Joanne scene in particular weaken the entire show. It would have been fine to make Joanne bi and have the same basic script with only a few minor changes.

HONESTLY, female Bobbi just makes it a completely different show!

Which isn't to say there wouldn't be interesting ways of presenting that story, but... am I, personally, interested in it? Not really, because my immediate and only thought is 'good for her'.

So I got unexpected tickets to see this when the original ticket holders got sick, and knowing exactly 0% of what this was about, and being a young-transitioning-to-mid-30some single gal, let's just say I was extremely not prepared to have the contents of private conversations with friends and family belted out by Broadway legend Patti Lupone.
Agree it doesn't work as seamlessly as it might've before; the concepts are kind of outdated, but like, not for my grandmother 😂
