Re: How was your weekend?

Mine was not good. My partner got out of control angry over a minor thing and lashed out (at an inanimateobject, not me). He apologised afterwards, but I feel like a level of trust between us has gone.

You do you, OP.

That said, I'd love to know which fandoms you're in, since Character/OC is by far the most popular ship dynamic in every single one of mine. >.<

Stressful.

Worrying. Lot of worrying.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's an incredibly mainstream fandom opinion.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it really?

Putin's space minister has implied they are ready to drop the ISS out of orbit early, and start a kessler syndrome, to avoid Russia losing its war, and Putin is supposedly ready to authorize tactical nuclear strikes, and this is all fine and very normal. I'm fine, I'm not worried, everything is okay and not scary at all. Yes, I am completely okay. Okay? Okay!

Ready for Robocop to go back to just being satire, any day now/

No. Twenty year relationship. When I say minor, I mean minor. Because we were five minutes late for a social engagement, he blew his lid and smashed a window.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly wasn't ten years ago. The Kirby covers were beloved by the Pratchett fandom.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, Durwood could be an ass in Bewitched, but the power always lay with Samantha.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Do ya? Cause there is a lot of hammering the point home.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
+1
Yeah, the housewife fantasy is only ever appealing because the fantasy-husband is kind and respectful and won't let the power dynamic get to his head. Actual husbands from that time period though... oof

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if this is a US vs UK thing possibly...

DA

So either the 5 minutes wasn't really the underlying reason and something else is building up frustration/anger in his life which probably needs to be addressed with more than an apology, or the 5 minutes *was* the underlying reason and something about how he reacts to emotions has recently changed which he may want to get checked out like, medically, especially if it's to the point of breaking windows over it...

If that is the first time in twenty years, then I wouldn't worry. Once is an aberration, twice is a worry, three times is when it is a pattern.

I agree, anon. They put me off initially as well. Maybe it's because I had to endure being a woman in the early days of this fandom, but I've always hated these covers to the point where I actually felt embarrassed reading the books in public. They're garishly sexist and often have nothing to do with the descriptions from the books (Rincewind being portrayed as an elderly man, every single female character regardless of personality dressed in scraps of silk with their tits and ass pouring out, unless of course if they're over 40 in which case they're comically hideous). I guess they have a pulpy kitschy vibe, but to me it represents the worst era of fantasy and sci-fi, when the genre was dominated wall-to-wall by the thinly veiled masturbation fantasies of white middle aged men. Not sad to see Kirby go, tbh.

Same anon as above

I only mention the medical thing because you mentioned a 20 year relationship and shit can get weird as you get older. If stuff like this keeps happening, sudden drastic changes in behavior could mean hormonal/mental issues cropping up

oh yknow, just trying to make my way through one crisis after another without breaking down

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, mostly. Kirby's cover art was definitely a vibe, and it's not a terrible match for Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic, but Discworld quickly grew out of being a basic parody of fantasy that the covers suited. I think Paul Kidby's work is a much better fit.

Friday I had a conference in San Antonio, so yesterday I drove home. I've had a massive migraine, so not a fun drive. Still have the migraine, and I'm really exhausted. My kitty was sick last night. Trying to get laundry done, and other than that just listening to music on Youtube.

And we're currently going through the frozen meals to find the ones without soy or cheese since we just discovered that most of the ones I've been eating have hidden cheese and that soy is also a possible migraine trigger. So many things I can't eat now. So frustrating.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's fair.

The artist was more famous than the author, when those were first coming out, and he def. gave them an eye-catching signature style. But the art is... a choice.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they are well-crafted, but I don't like the style. Also, it doesn't suit books at all

(Anonymous) 2022-02-27 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I always think how I'd have to clean other peoples' houses or something. Plenty of women had to have jobs back then.
