did you ever work in a restaurant in San Francisco called Pluto's? I only ate there once because they had the same song on a loop there for at least 45 minutes.

That’s a long shot, but it would be amazing if the answer was yes!

Oh word. For me it goes back to having a walkman and then discman. I would just listen to a tape/cd for like a month, find a new one I liked and repeat.

Heh I do that too.

I’m very similar, except my continuous listening can last days, with breaks in between for sleep and work obviously, and I’ll get the urge whenever I’m working to listen to it, which is quite distracting. Then I rarely listen to it afterwards, that part is the same as you.

But after almost never listening to it for awhile, I’ll get the urge or see it pop up on shuffle, and I’ll give it a go again. Sometimes I’m able to recapture some of the magic I felt from it when it was still new to me for just one listen. And sometimes that doesn’t happen, and I move on.

I could just listen to songs I like sparingly, so it takes longer for the magic to wear off. That’s how it used to be back when I relied on only the radio to hear songs I loved because I couldn’t afford cassettes/CDs often, not even empty ones to record the radio. But I have no impulse control when it comes to my favorite songs now that tech has progressed.

I tend to loop new songs for awhile too until I get sick of it and then stop, but I will eventually listen to them again.

I do this too, and would probably never listen again as well, so I add all my "heard this for 3 days straight" songs to a playlist and get a lovely surprise from time to time.

I can't say I do that ALL the time, or that it's the ONLY way I listen to music, but there have been occasions. (I recently pulled out some old fan art I made and was like "I CAN EXPLAIN THIS. I was RPing this character but IRL I was listening to that song over and over and chair-dancing while doing so...")

Actually there was at least one time I specifically recall I spent an entire evening listening to the opening riff of a Sonic Youth song, and then when it started getting towards the verse, I restarted the track to hear the opening riff again.

I feel this, the last part especially!

I also have favorite parts of a lot of different songs, and I replay those moments repeatedly until I’m ready to move on to the rest of the song. Sometimes I don’t even listen to the rest of the song, I’ll just replay my favorite part, especially the opening, until I’m satisfied and then be done with the song. I do the same while watching videos, so I only do this when I’m listening/watching by myself. I didn’t have that same conscientious when I was a kid obviously, and I annoyed my parents by asking to replay the beginning of a song again and again, while wearing out the tape in the cassettes lol!

I do this. Listen to the same song over and over then get surprised it pops up on YouTube or something several months later :)
