Gilgamesh's prophetic dreams about the coming of Enkidu ("An axe fell to earth and I loved it like a wife") are the slashiest thing I have ever seen. You modern kids need to up your game.

I just want to say I really loved Enkidu and this epic is one of my favorite books. Also, I'd write on the margins all the time responses/translations/reactions -- Ishtar has some of the best lol

I adore it too! I liked most epics and myths from many different cultures, but I always had the number one spot reserved for the OG!

And my experience was actually pretty similar to yours to except writing in the margins. I had a separate notebook for my thoughts and impressions. Not to mention my fic of it, where I wrote several fix-it fics and Gilgamesh/Enkidu fics. And this was before I even became a fic writer online lol!

I haven't actually read it, just the chapter where Ekidnu dies, but man, I can barely even read the 'skin of a lion' bit out loud without choking up.
