What movie or book has a ridiculous title?

(Anonymous) 2022-04-12 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by today's Secret #6. Ridiculously bad or ridiculously awesome.

A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell (1990) gets my vote.

I've always loved the title "Clash of the Titans." I love the Harryhausen version, and the fact that it both speaks to a huge battle and the fact that there are literally two Titans involved is cool, IMHO.

I think Brandon Sanderson in general does great titles. Some particularly great ones are "Hero of Ages," "Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians," "the Bands of Mourning," and "Rhythm of War."

I like stupid long names for stuff. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) are some.

That truly is a great title. It's intriguing but gives nothing away and I want to know more....

The Case of the Toxic Spell Dump is one of my favorites. Along with this version of the cover https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1303090224l/101555.jpg

I recall a friend of mine was pissed because they saw a very good, very sad anime movie about terminal illness whose title was localized "I Want To Eat Your Pancreas" and people laughed because they thought it was funny. :P I get why they'd laugh, so uhm. Maybe not the best title. (Presumably it's a reference to something that happens in the movie, but still.)

As for ridiculously awesome, I see someone already mentioned Killer Klowns. ;)

That's the movie that popped into my head when I saw the title of this thread. I haven't actually seen the movie, but I think that's the actual title in Japanese.

I would assume so because I'm not sure why else they would call it that... I don't know if the average Japanese person would find it as weird a title as the average American person seems to.

I figure it makes sense in the context of the movie. From what I've heard of it I'd like to see it, though when it was actually released the whole "terminal illness" thing was still kind of a touchy subject. (Now I'm more resigned to it.)

I think the modern trend of one-word titles is ridiculous. It's pretentious. Conciseness can be good, but one-word titles tell you almost nothing.

On the flip side, a lot of middle grade chapter books had overly long titles that were just a list of seemingly unrelated things and I thought those were also ridiculous. One example was something like "Mom, Shakespeare, Smelly Fish, My Teacher Mrs. Dinglefingle, and Me, Elizabeth." Kind of like a bunch of one-word titles smushed together.

For ridiculously awesome, another long middle grade book title from when I was young that I thought was cool was "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson." I don't remember much about what happened in the book, but I've never forgotten how intrigued I was by the title.
