I am going to be contrary to everyone here, but the second one is even worse. One shouldn't invest even their small amount of money into shitty things.
There is always piracy though, so maybe they do not buy a lot of tickets

There's always the case that someone watch something that they thought they'd like (maybe because of hype) and they end up hating it a lot, so they further their knowledge and hatred reading reddit posts and articles etc about that. You don't have to spend a lot of money to know details about something you hate (also, yes, piracy is a thing).
I don't like both people who judge without consuming the media they're critizising and people who spend a lot of time hating a media they continue to follow/consume, but I can understand and tollerate the latter way better. At least you can talk about the flaws of that media and understand why they hate it after a conversation. With people just judge prior consuming you don't get anything out of the conversation because they know nothing about it. Complete waste of time IMHO.

A lot of the time it isn't that the entire thing is shitty, though. It might've had a great concept or great characters or great storytelling up until the plot got totally sidetracked by the romance 2/3 of the way through. A lot of the time that makes it even worse because you can see the potential it had if it wasn't for some really bad writing/directorial decisions.
