i think the "one guy you'd go gay for" is a stupid idea anyway

i don't find him attractive - because I'M NOT GAY. you might as well ask "if you believed in a god which god would you believe in", when the answer is none of them, because i don't - i don't have the capacity to view the world through that lens; and i don't have the capacity to find ryan reynolds attractive, because i'm not attracted to guys

can i recognise that he has a number of features that are attractive to people who are attracted to those features? yes. am i attracted to them? no

that example is funny to me because i don't think it would be a particularly hard thing to answer & also an interesting thought exercise. what gods reflect on your values or aspirations, what beliefs might prey on your particular insecurities?

also you can find someone of the opposite sex attractive without being gay, it's not the end of the world you don't have to hand your straight card in immediately lol

NAYRT - I mean, yes, but a hypothetical answer to this kind of question fundamentally lacks any sort of transferability beyond the hypothetical realm. Faith and attraction are not predominantly rational, so the conclusion one comes to based on reason is meaningful in that it tells you about that person's rational values, convictions, and priorities, but paradoxically, what it doesn't do is answer the actual question. What god I would hypothetically believe in if I believed in a god tells you plenty about me, but what it doesn't tell you is what god I'd believe in if I believed in a god. Because I have absolutely no idea. I have zero knowledge of how religious faith would manifest in me. You may as well ask me, "Hey, if you spontaneously grew a tail, what kind of tail would it be?" Hypothetically, a monkey tail, because I multi-task a lot and I love climbing things. But literally, actually? Fuck dude, IDK, I hope I get a good one!

This, honestly.

...wait what??

The same way an atheist might use the phrase "jesus christ" or "god damnit!" isn't because they've changed their viewpoint, people saying they'd be "gay for this or that person" has very little to do with their sexuality as a whole.

The only way I've seen it used is as a complement, that they idolize or just really personally like them- enough that they'd figuratively 'go gay' for them. Attractiveness is really just a kinda plus, since everyone's that little bit shallow, and everyone with eyes are going to have an opinion/preference regardless of gender. Sexuality has little to nothing to actually do with it.

(I phrased this better but then it got eaten by my shitty internet so yeah)
