This.

I used to think this would be an awesome way to organise the comments, but after a week of it, I don't like it. I miss the random flow of conversation that the old system had. Plus, I actually like browsing through all the comments to see what others have said. I often pick up secrets to comment on that I might've not taken notice of before.

Also, by the time I get to read the secret posts due to time differences, the first two pages have upwards of 200+ comments each (sometimes 300+ for the first page) and this takes a long time to load. I don't know which comment threads are worth expanding, so I don't bother and now the comments are just boring and I don't waste any time reading them now. I just look at the secrets and leave it at that. Commenting on them individually is too hard.

Sycophant, much?

And -- for the record -- I doubt any of us could care less if you read 'em or not.

With this new system I've felt absolutely zero desire to comment on anything because it's just going to be buried in a thread that the OP and maybe a couple others will bother to read in full. The chance for scroller-byers to see something and comment is completely diminished. I expressed my initial concerns in one of the other poll threads earlier this week and nothing has changed. Putting it in practice just solidified my distaste for participation now. Sadly, it looks as though I'm the minority here so I'm just stuck to reading secrets with zero participation in discussion. Thanks for at least attempting to gather opinions.

I kind of wish there were threads for the nonsecrets since it's so subjective who gets a n!s, ect...unless it's too big.

[identity profile] uozlulu.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree anon :d

Unfortunately....I think she's perfectly serious.

[identity profile] phantom-roxs.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say lose the links in the comments next to the secret number, because a lot of people who use photobucket with the secrets, have the same username on there as on here, and that pretty much gives away the whole point of having a "secret"

[identity profile] ayeayes.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hover, click, hit "back"....60-something times. No. Just...no.

[identity profile] ayeayes.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Only 14.4% are against it? :(
Agh...oh well, at least there are those posting the old way anyway...

[identity profile] ayeayes.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
:( I understand....I have to wonder why so many people are actually LIKING it. The only people I can imagine would like the new system are those who only wanna see what people said about their secrets and don't wanna bother with anyone else's.
In fact, the only people it's easier for are the people who just read without commenting...

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I think Case making the one thread at the end for the n!s/n!f is better, because commenters often "coded" it differently, so ctrl-F'ing for those was such a hassle I never did it. Now the n!s/n!f comments are much easier to find.

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I found it easier to find people who share a bunch of interests with me because they keep popping up in various comment threads I'm looking at. Seeing them over and over impacts me more than seeing their one comment with a bunch of things in it. But then, I don't just scroll past; I expand all the comments for all the secrets I cared about (even if I don't comment on all of them) and also for the secrets that have generated a ton of comments.

What do you mean, hover, click, hit back 60 times?

That's dumb. As you scroll down through the comments containing the secret you would simply open the thread in of each secret in a new post. You would never have to "hit back".

Pretty much! If they wanna rock out on the last pages, they're free to, but I'm not skimming through it when there's a system set up.

[identity profile] pimmy.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Plus, comments are reduced to one secret each"
I thought of this shortly after I posted. Yeah I can understand that XD And it's fun sometimes to notice certain comments and end up reading a secret you skimmed before.

I kinda miss the icons with the rainbows! %D

[identity profile] pimmy.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I never thought of that one! Maybe I should pay attention to people more, haha. I think the biggest thing people don't like is having to make individual comments for every secret, I know a few people who will have like 20 in one post! (though I tend to comment on only 2 or 3) So I guess it depends on the person.

Aw thank you~ I'm a sucker for thems magical girls.

[identity profile] drivebywizard.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
This. It's a shallow reason but having visual motivation to participate is just as important as everything else. Seeing the same damn icon through two pages of comments is the most obnoxious thing ever.

Also, this system just makes the post lag for those with a slower connection. I don't have that issue myself, but I know for a fact others will. Seems kind of unfair for those people if you ask me.

But ah, what's the point in commenting if the poll will be the only deciding factor.

[identity profile] phantom-roxs.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Blah, true.
It was pretty much just me thinking out loud... without much thought. xD
Other then that, I may not love the new comment system, but it's organized and clean, so I can't complain.

[identity profile] uozlulu.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yeah, that works too. I just noticed sometimes this week they got no love because there was no thread for them.

[identity profile] jianna.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really like the new system either, for reasons others have already expressed. I've hardly commented on secrets at all this week because I don't want to have to find the right thread for the secrets I want to talk about, and it doesn't lend itself to conversations springing up in the comments. But uh... clearly outvoted here, somehow =\
