I’ve been told a lot of people played Happiness! just for the one dude. (I’d be able to find out more if anyone would ever translate Happiness!, dammit.)

Professional artists have been a part of fanzines since the beginning. Like creators actually used to care about their work and the fans- it's shocking but true.

I too wish I had superpowers to smite everyone I don't like starting with Putin, several Supreme Court justices, the Koch brothers (or the remaining one) and probably some other rich conservative assholes who are trying to fuck shit up for everyone.

lol yup. that or I imagine the kid panicked like an idiot sorta like that scene in Goodfellas where Karen was dumping all the coke down the toilet after the police was at their house.

But are the fish involved? ...Asking for a friend.

This person put up comparison pictures, and it looks like 'The Smokey Mountains' is a match.

It wasn't a lie, and it wasn't run by teenagers, either. It was just a case of the finance mod being grossly unprepared to deal with tens of thousands of dollars, which isn't terribly surprising. Just kind of sad, really.

I mean, if you want a full-colour printed zine with addons like stickers and so on, it could easily cost that much. But, like kickstarters, you've got to be ready to get nothing back, either. Personally I usually get the .pdf version, as it's cheaper and I feel less ripped off when things fall through. I've only had one time getting absolutely nothing in many years of participation, though.

She also spent it on takeout and real life things, which makes way more sense than just Genshin.

Not OP, but even as an American (so spoiled for choice of asshole politicians) Boris Johnson wins a booby prize for being a disgusting, small minded, selfish little shit. It's not just that he's bad at his job, he's actively fucking his country over.

This. Artists set their own prices, if you don't try to haggle them down or pressure them into doing more work than was agreed upon, then you're treating them fair and respectful by paying what they ask for. If they go above and beyond or if whatever content they helped you with does exceptionally well you can always send them a tip afterwards.

There's a difference between being grossly unprepared to handle it and stealing it.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-13 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
You should make the rich assholes sign away their money first though, otherwise it goes goes to their rich asshole families.

Trump is still not anywhere near the level of a, say, Putin, Kim or Xi.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-13 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
I love Mr Ballen, despite the fact he can be hit and miss at times. I can't even remember the Bell's Canyons story so it must have been very unmemorable. Though when he hits, I find he tends to hit big! The most astonishing video imo is the interrogation where the man turns out to have been shot! I do like his build up and he does keep me watching right till the end... even if the twist is at times disappointing

(Anonymous) 2022-07-13 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Putin I'll grant you. With Kim or Xi, I'm not sure I agree. I think Trump's shittiness is more relatively consequential than Kim's or Xi's shittiness. If Kim were gone, he would be replaced by a general or something and North Korea would most likely still be a deeply authoritarian dictatorship. If Xi were gone, he would be replaced by another senior Chinese official who would most likely have very similar views and continue to enact basically similar policies. That's not the case with Trump; Trump is a distinctive, unique force on the American political scene who emboldens the far right by his very existence and who governs in a fundamentally different style with different outcomes compared to most of the people who could potentially replace him. Also, the president of America is fundamentally just more consequential than the Supreme Leader of North Korea.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-13 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, same goes for Putin, really. And this is more about "evil things they did or caused", not the reality of political succession (I bet there would be an asshole that's similar to Trump just waiting to take his place, too). And just based on that, Trump isn't even in the same ballpark as the others.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-13 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, even if he misses, I do appreciate the way he tries to make the people, especially victims of crimes or accidents, more relatable instead of just a picture and a name.

(Anonymous) 2022-07-13 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
(I bet there would be an asshole that's similar to Trump just waiting to take his place, too).

There are plenty of people who'd want to try. There are two big differences though.

one, many of the people who would take his place within the Republican party are more aligned with movement conservatism than Trump is, which means that they'll act in somewhat different ways. Don't get me wrong - mostly they'd still be evil, because they are evil people animated by an evil ideology. But there are a few key issues where Trump is meaningfully worse than regular movement conservatives (basically the "subverting the constitution" stuff and the "being corrupt on a global scale" stuff).

Two, Trump is a celebrity with a ton of media experience and savvy who has a media image and celebrity status built up over the course of decades and an existing cult-like following, and his replacements aren't. So they would be a much less potent political force.
