Ooooh, I like horror anthologies! I'll have to look up this book :).

I started coming here in 2009 when I was 16. I'm still here now.

I was in my 40s then, I'm in my 50s now.

I still have some of the same fandoms. I don't really ever completely drop anything, I still wander back and write fic for some fandoms every five years or so. If I loved it then, I probably still love it now. (Unless the author has revealed herself to be a horrifically vicious TERF and ruined it, that is).

I also have some new ones, though usually not the most popular ones at the moment. I like older midsized fandoms best.

I like them too.

Been lurking and commenting since 2011 - was 20 then, am 31 now - but I just started making and submitting secrets here in 2020! Gave me something to do during the start of the pandemic. :D

Am I the only one who thinks it's strange to call something BL that isn't made in Japan?

I remember when so many fandoms had not got global releases and maybe only three people had seen or read the entire thing, that all fic was OOC in some way and based on fanon's fanon. I loved it. Kept the fandom police to a minimum. Sadly it didn't last.

I'd just smile at the thought of Ewoks being roasted, tbh.

Ah, the story where the Doctor's companion discovered she was a bi-sexual furry. I remember it well. I may even save that as a secret for the next secret maker's thread.

One so small that I am the only content creator for it, and to name it would be to out me.

Blame the original writer for that, he went the JK Rowling route of tanking his own fandom.

I started coming to Fandom Secrets when it was on livejournal, at least a couple of years before the move, probably peg it somewhere in 2008 or 2009, but it's a long damn time ago and I don't remember exactly when. Still anon. Almost always been a multi-fandomer (my first fandom was X-Files and it took me a little bit to realize other fandoms existed and that I wanted to be in them). I have a couple of fandoms from then that I'm still in, others I'm not, some that have come and gone in the intervening years, plus a couple of relatively new ones.

Fandom always woobifies the weirdest characters, usually the nerd, no matter how obnoxious, dominating, and aggressive they are. It really ticks me off, especially in my fandom for the same reason as you. Hang in there and keep doing your thing. I promise you there are fans out there grateful for the way you characterize!

I can tell you there's a reason that I generally stay away from avant-garde movies. That said, I can't really imagine anything but a really bleak ending, so I say suicide. Or maybe leaving the island, but torturing himself by coming back again and again, until he dies, by his own hand or a ghost or by misadventure. Either way, don't think you're right.

if you were talking about "shounen-ai" or "yaoi", I think you'd have a point. but BL? no.

Yaoi/shounen-ai is Japan.

But BL is the terms used most SEA countries to describe this genre of show and it's definitely not Japan specific. In fact, Japan is likely one of the countries that actually doesn't use the term BL as much because they have other terms for it.

But in Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, China... it's called BL. Like, literally the two English letters. Taiwan a little less because it's more queer media there and the Philippines varies between queer and BL as the term but no, it's not a Japan thing at all.

Now, it gets more questionable if you call things NOT out of SEA BL because that's a bigger question of terms, culture, intent... but that's a can of worms I've discussed enough to know that there is no answer for that.

I have no idea when I started, but I've been dipping in and out since at least 2010, because I know I wrote a secret about a fic I wrote in 2008 and it would have been max. 2 years after I wrote it and I'd been lurking before then. It was probably a few years earlier, though.

I did have a multi-year break though, and I came back when my dad was in hospital and I just wanted to be part of something low stakes and with more positive interactions than my life allowed me at the time. It was nice being here when he passed, because it was a place where nobody knew about it.

I did one, and kept it a simple row by row so if I wanted to quickly run that day's row off I could, and if I had to catch up I wouldn't end up spending ages sorting out the pattern.

One thing about the hexagon one - I've done a lot of those, but don't forget the bigger it gets the more yarn it eats! I used to get caught out by that a lot. Or are you thinking more of doing a small hexagon per day / week and then assembling them together at the end? Because that could look gorgeous.

The tv show is completely different from the books, and the tv show fandom didn't pay any attention to the books.

ugh same. I'm in the code geass fandom and its so hard trying to find fanart of it besides recycled ecchi stuff of Kallen everyone has seen a billion times.

I think I almost watched black rock shooter a few years ago but never did for some reason. It looks super cool, I'm definitely gonna check it out!

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, my god there are some people that just can't NOT walk like elephants! At my last apartment, I was on the second floor, and I had to keep scolding one of my friends who would stomp all over whenever she visited. Like, don't you hear yourself???
