It's because nobody wants original art. My friends a pro comic book artist, very talented and very popular. Yet all his commissions are for fanart. He offers original and OCs, yet nobody wants it. Luckily a lot of the bigger comic book publishers ignore that when it comes to their artists and he can draw their property freely. But I dread to think what a poor hobby artist has to go through to get any interest if a pro can't do it.
