Because I could use some. If you could too, go ahead and ask.

Skincare Help?

Is there any way I can improve the ways my pores look on my face? I have huge pores on my nose and cheeks. Any serums? Laser/peeling treatments? I am willing to drop coin on it but I don't know where to start. If I can improve with serums or creams I will give those a try before going to a dermatologist to ask about expensive treatments.

From what I understand of the science, you can't change the size of your pores. The best way, without throwing your money at a bunch of stuff that doesn't work, is to go straight to a dermatologist with your concerns. They have no financial incentive to have you buy expensive serums, and will tell you straight out if nothing can be done.

Have you tried blackhead removal strips? You can get them from the chemist, they're like... sticky plaster you put on your nose, leave for five minutes, and when you pull it away a lot of embedded gunge comes with them.

They won't necessarily shrink the pores, but they'll end up with a softer, smoother appearance.

And they're a cheap thing to try.

Don't use any of those blackhead removal strips or masks. Those strip away too much of the oils that your skin and pores actually need to stay healthy. They can even make your pores larger and more visible.

I was having a lot of trouble with blackheads and larger looking pores and then I found a face cleanser that was appropriate for my skin type. Just cleaning and moisturising once or twice a week has very quickly and noticeably reduced the amount of blackheads and visibility of my pores.

Use a daily facial cleanser that contains salicylic acid. You can also use a pore strip like the anon above suggested to get rid of the stuff that's clogging them now and then use the daily cleanser after that to keep them clear. Dietary changes might also help like consuming less dairy and sugary soft drinks.

If you have the money, just go to a dermatologist.

death tw

So an uncle I didn't know well (dad's brother's wife's brother, so not a blood relative, never met him growing up) passed away yesterday.

I'm much closer to my aunt and at least chat with his son sometimes, and this is the first of my aunt's siblings to die and my cousin lost his mom when he was still a kid, but since I'm not a blood relative I won't be helping with paperwork or arrangements, which I know can be soul-sucking.

Has anyone on FS given food or meal delivery service as a bereavement gift, or used them generally? I figure it's the modern equivalent of a casserole it would be too hot for anyway, but I'm not sure which one(s?) to get. UberEats and Grubhub and Doordash are all available where they are, plus grocery delivery.

Which if any should I go with, or does anyone know other good options?

Personally I think this is sweet. I never had much to do with my own uncle on my dad’s side and his wife at the time didn’t even let us know he’d passed, and my grandparents and older brother passed when I was too young to process what was happening.

Probably check and see which groceries they need unless it’s the normal every day stuff like toilet paper. A nice hot meal that they didn’t have to prepare would be thoughtful.

TMJ

Has anyone else had this? What has worked for you? I feel like I've tried everything and I'm running out of ideas.

I have TMJ because a dentist dislocated my jaw once and it is damaged from that to this day. I have to eat soft foods sometimes because chewing is incredibly painful and my jaw gets so tired it just doesn't want to move anymore and locks up. Usually applying a heating pad for a while (laying it on my face as I lay on the other side, not laying on the heating pad itself) helps the sting of it go away. I've taken muscle relaxers for it in the past but they make me so drowsy and it's hard to localize the relaxer to my face so it just makes all of me a droopy mess. But babying my jaw and not moving it helps a lot. I had to train myself to stop grinding my teeth because that was setting it off big time. I've heard about mouth guards to help with this but the one I had made the pain worse so I stopped wearing it early on. There are good days and there are bad days but majority of my pain and discomfort just waned over time and now it's a lot better. I hope yours does the same.
