There were also the people, possibly trying to excuse themselves for ever enjoying Rurouni Kenshin, by saying the manga was so wholesome that nobody could have predicted the author being such a reprehensible person.

That's the whole point of what everyone with a working brain has been saying since antis started their shit. You can't know what a person would do or would never do IRL by looking at what they write or draw or like in fiction!
