Pet Peeves/Minor Annoyances Thread:

(Anonymous) 2022-11-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
My current one is that I when content I wanted to consume is gone, it feels like insult to injury when the website has a cutesy custom message for the Page/Work(/etc.) Not Found 404 page. I was trying to watch a Twitch VOD, but it hit the time limit where it gets automatically deleted. So I won’t be able to read the chat log ever again. That’s annoying enough, but then I’m reminded that the message on Twitch is “Sorry. Unless you’ve got a time machine, that content is unavailable”. It just made me feel worse. I’d love to have a time machine, Twitch! I don’t like Tumblr’s message either. It’s not a huge deal. It just bugs me more than the more robotic 404 messages.

I also don’t like that Twitch VODs get automatically deleted after a certain time either, while I’m already mentioning it. I understand why it is that way. I really do. But I’m just so used to YouTube and places like it where a video and channel will stay up as long as the creator wants it to, or unless there’s a copyright or content violation. I feel spoiled by YT. And I’m not used to having this urgency to watch everything. But I need to get used to it if I choose to keep watching and rewatching streams.

I meant to put my example under the start of the thread like you’re supposed to. My bad!

There seems to be some difficulty in getting my cat's prescription for her food to Amazon so we can get the food shipped. Amazon says they contacted our vet and didn't hear anything. The vet says Amazon hasn't contacted them. Really frustrating.

I hate feeling like I don't know what to say to people. I want to know what to say. I want to know what they want me to say.

I am very glad to be getting the chance to be hired on full-time at my job! (And side annoyance: you'd think they could change my status more quickly when they did it ACCIDENTALLY back in March.)

But this week I have done such exciting things as... format huge lists of addresses/links of different organizations in HTML. Very long lists with a lot of variance in what info is included for each organization, so I can't automate it. Long, long lists of links and not-links, coding them in HTML by hand, and also having to remember to turn curly apostrophes into regular ones because they were sent as copy from Word docs.

So many lists containing so many addresses that I already know what I'm going to be doing for most of tomorrow morning because I couldn't finish today. -_-

I get the bus every weekday, and guaranteed on every one, there will be at least 5 people with their tiny backpacks or totes taking up the seat next to them. Even when the bus is full and there are people standing in the aisle.

Most will move their stuff when prompted so I can sit, but I shouldn't have to ask? I've paid for a seat, your tiny bag hasn't. Put it on your lap, ffs. Especially aggravating when it's priority seats that are meant for the elderly/disabled.

I voted. I am in a deep red state so it means nothing. Now, I am just going to avoid politics for the rest of the week because I expect nothing good will happen.

Thanks for voting, and I understand how you feel. Though honestly, I'm not sure what to think anymore. Polls are either way too accurate or don't mean shit, folks are turning out in record numbers except they aren't, or maybe they are. People are promising they'll vote but maybe they will, maybe they won't. I don't know. I still voted anyway. Hoping things turn out favorably for America. And by America I mean the citizens and not the rich assholes/corporations or greedy politicians.

Yeah I have a Canadian friend who messaged me a bit ago on Discord, they've been busy and they're like "I hope you're doing well!" and I don't even know how to reply because I'm like "well on the bright side I don't think the con gave me covid, on the down side I'm sitting here watching flashy graphics and worrying about whether or not my country will still be a democracy in six months..."

Re: Ugh

I and a lot of other people voted early in my state, which means we had to use absentee ballots and they couldn't begin counting them until the polls closed tonight. I understand that this is also the case in many other states. I'm deathly worried that the Republicans will try to stop the counting so they can declare victory. They've done it before.

Re: Ugh

Voted too but it is disappointing and discouraging how uninspiring politicians and politics in general have become. There was no hopeful energy here, just apathy or panic.

*cries in Tennessee* I really hoped we could at least get rid of our shitstain governor but the overwhelming majority voted for him.
One bright spot is that my city has made some good choices for some offices but sadly the best person for city council is dead last. No one knew she was running, she didn’t really campaign from what I can tell. She’s an acquaintance and I only found out on Friday that the name I saw on the sample ballot was hers (I didn’t know her surname). There are five people running for city council and only four vacancies :(

I voted too. Normally there isn’t a line when I go vote, but today the line was out the door. I thought that was interesting.

I just hope my coworkers don’t bitch about whoever wins tomorrow. They’re always complaining, but none of them ever vote.

How on earth did Marjorie Taylor Green get reelected? Even apart from her right-wing extremism, which does sadly have its fans, she's a complete conspiracy crackpot and really, really dumb. I can get why right-wing voters would have voted her in the first time. But reelecting her? WTF?

Ugh. I'm going to bed. America, please stop being this stupid. Please. We can be better than this.
