I’ll probably end up making my own secret on the topic, but I’d be curious when in the Peter Grant books you felt the copaganda got to be too much.

Personally, it’s the first SFF book/series I’ve been able to get into in a long time. But that might be due to personal changes.

There's a lot of very different SFF out there right now, so if absolutely nothing is of interest to you, have you considered that it's you who is the issue?

So, are you interested in the SF end of SFF, or only the terminal F? Either way, anything new and not written in first person is going to be hard to find, but you might have better luck finding a plot you connect with if you look around the SF titles for a while.

Hey, sometimes if you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it, and that's fine.
If you don't mind more practical advice, stop by a bookstore/library and ask for a recommendation, or even hit them up on social media. Booksellers and librarians love these little challenges to find a good fit (this is not sarcasm-- I'm a bookseller and recommending books is the highlight of our day).

Rivers of London was the first urban fantasy series I got really into, but I used to work at the Royal Opera House and I'm hugely familiar with Covent Garden so I got a kick out of knowing the area xD

Not all fandoms are obsessed over ships. Some are full of fucking nerds over minutiae details. Or complaining that the newest installment ruined the franchise forever and that the last work was definitely better.

This is a bad argument. Antis suck and I'm a diehard shipper, but firstly, shipping is not the singular be all and end all of fandom, and secondly, it isn't shipping in and of itself that antis object to. Like, you do realize that most antis have ships too, right?

It really depends on the fandom. Even among the early fandoms. Yes, Star Trek had lots of shipping from the beginning. But the Tolkien fandom was less about shipping for a long time and still has everything else along with the shipping.

It's the misogyny. Men tend to consume cannon: do models, learn all the specs, etc. Women tend to transform canon, most notably exploring the world and relationships through fanfiction.

Fully agree that MCU cameos in Deadpool are very different from Deadpool cameos in MCU movies. I’m open to the former, but dread the idea of the latter.

What's the weather like where you are?

We got a snow/ice storm today. Not bad for elsewhere in the world, but bad enough for Texas that everything is closed today and tomorrow. Sucks for me because turns out I have COVID and I can't pick up the antiviral due to the pharmacy being closed. But on the other hand it means I don'thave to use a sick day today and tomorrow.
