Let’s taboo the word “fetishize” for a while and see what happens. If someone wants to write, I dunno, submissive obedient black women or some shit, does it really matter?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-03 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
As with everything, it depends on "how"

I ignored the guy who wrote submissive black women and was searching for a submissive black girlfriend IRL, because the site was big enough to avoid him. But on a smaller site, there was a very loud and opinionated writer who was into dominant black women in such a way that it came across as positive discrimination. He was tremendously annoying and got a lot of mod warnings, but I don’t think his stories actively damaged anything besides my patience.

(The last time I mentioned this guy, someone remembered him being banned from a completely different site. Apparently, he got around.)

You can post to an anonymous collection on AO3, so that your name isn't associated with it, if you think it's a good fic that people will enjoy but don't want to stress your friend.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
+100

This is a valid suggestion. You don't need to have your main nickname attached to the fic, nonny.
You can post anonymously or you can make another account just for the smutty stuff you're vaguely or entirely ashamed of.

Try not to overthink it!

(Anonymous) 2023-02-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I think "just tag it" is underrated as a wank avoidance technique.

Write what you like, just tag it so people who like the same can find it and people who dislike it can avoid it.

I mean, arguably is ANYONE allowed to write about trans characters? Because even trans writers get yelled at for writing about trans characters - it happens ALL the time to the point that it's to be expected that you will offend someone on some level regardless if you yourself are or are not trans. Write whatever you want to write about and if you're afraid to write about trans characters, do what writers have been doing for decades: write about cuntboys instead, literally just dudes that happen to have vaginas. Don't worry about offending people because you will! You undoubtedly will offend SOMEONE and it sucks so go hogwild and write about whatever you want to write about because it doesn't matter one way or the other, as a writer you will offend someone somewhere regardless of your background or what you are writing about.

Dude. Take a deep, deep breath and LET IT GO.
You're fine. Writing about men with vaginas is fine. Posting your HP A/B/O werewolf fic is fine.

You like what you like. Your kinks are fine. You're not hurting anyone. It's okay.

transguy here. Anon, do whatever you want. Go crazy. It's not fetishization to wanna write smut with transmen involved. If anything, you're giving people representation in a way, and I say that as someone who's heavily T4T and loves to read smut with transguys in it. You being so worried about fetishization honestly shows that you have good intentions.

for the record, writing about trans people in HP has been a fuck you JK for a bit, so at least some people will understand that you're saying fuck you jk.

You don't have to be "allowed" to do anything. Even if you were cishet, it would still be perfectly fine if you wanted to write transguys in your fic, as long as you don't make them into some caricature.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's worth you thinking about what fetishizing is. It's not just finding something sexy. It's reducing it to an object that's only purpose is to be sexy. And that most often happens with non-male and/or non-white and/or non-cis bodies because colonialism and the patriarchy has traditionally othered those bodies.

Obviously there is some blurring of lines, but I am hard pressed to see how you as a transman are fetishizing bodies like yours by finding them sexy in erotica. I.e., just because bodies like yours have traditionally been fetishized does not mean any sexualisation of those bodies must necessarily mean objectification of those bodies. And even if there is an element of objectification to the stories you enjoy, the other thing to remember is that kink is not inherently bad - like a feminist can enjoy femsub in her sexual life without that being 'bad', you can like what you like without being 'bad'.

Re: boycotting HP, just as your friend has the right to decide to boycott any JKR related work, you have to right to decide how you want to continue interacting with her work in the future. And frankly, joyously filling the fandom with trans Remus werewolf sex seems like an excellent way both enjoy HP and stick it to JKR. As others have said, post it anonymously if you need to!

It sounds like you're either trolling or you have internalized misogyny.

If it's the latter, then rest assured that you can look forward to a future in which there are no cis women. It's gradually fading away as a legitimate gender category, and will likely be gone in a decade.

As a cis woman, grow the fuck up. We comprise half the fucking population, minus a SMALL percentage who are, horror of horrors, asking to be seen and heard. No one is erasing us, you absolute trashfire. "Legitimate gender category" christ on a cracker, next you'll be telling me my womb is full of moon magic.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Your womb has nothing at all to do with your gender, and I'm not sure why your stupid, regressive transphobic ass thinks it does.

Go die in a fire, cishet scum.

yeah as someone who fell into the latter category for years without realizing it, that's what it sounded like to me too, ngl.

Cis woman, not within death's range, but every time I hear people like you talk I feel a little like I want to die.

Good. The world will be a better place when cis women are gone.

Anyone is allowed to write trans characters. It's fiction. Take a breath and begin writing.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Fiction is still not activism. Trans men/pussyboys are a huge popular fetish in fandom atm. You're allowed to have fetishes. You'll be fine.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? Very much like the "I ship Hannigram" secret - congrats, you write one of the most popular hot new fetishes on the block! Exactly nobody will even blink and/or care what you as the author identify as.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Two things - anyone is allowed to write anything. If people were only allowed to write characters that matched them exactly, there would be very few stories that had more than one gender represented because men could only write men, women could only women, enbies could only write enbies etc etc.

Secondly, YOU ARE TRANS. Even if you're not a transman, you are transmasculine and there is overlap there. You have, whether small or large, some direct experience even if it's as small as thinking of yourself with male pronouns. Embrace it, use fiction to better understand the world and yourself.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Stop policing people what they have to identify as. That's just invasive and shitty. You have no right whatsoever to tell OP what they are or are not.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-04 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt, but this response seems like an overreaction. Sure, it's not great for someone to define what someone else's gender identity is, but it seems to me they were piecing it together from OP's secret. It may or may not have hit the mark, but there was no malice involved.

Also, please stop misusing "invasive," because it may not apply in this particular situation.
