NA Yeah, basically. I went back and looked at what JK said and had to conclude that none of it was noteworthy. Every time someone tries to claim that JK advocates for mass executions of trans people, I feel like they know just as well as I do how hard they're twisting the facts to come up with that interpretation.

Except she is. She's saying trans men aren't real men and trans women aren't real women (no one is arguing that the menstruating thing is wrong, but she's absolutely insistent that trans people don't count except as their original biological sex and suggests that at least many of them are faking it) and insists that trans women are dangerous and a threat to other women.

Except she isn't calling for mass executions of trans people. Me saying I don't believe in a god, many gods, any gods...and that I think those who *do* are delusional and wrong, and their delusional, wrong views should not be permitted to dictate how I live my life (and I shouldn't be forced to pretend to believe it either!) is not the same as saying I want any of those delusional people to die.

Also, human beings cannot literally become the opposite sex, only be given medical intervention to imitate it better. This means that men who, for whatever reason, want to pretend to be women are no less likely to be a danger to women than any other man. No-where did JKR say that transwomen were inherently more dangerous than any other man, but that unquestioning admission of these men to women's spaces, mixed with little oversight as to who is considered 'officially permitted in the other sex's space', means it is easily open to abuse for those men who wish to do so. Look at all the cases that keep popping up of men perving in changing rooms that are now, for all intents and purposes, mixed-sex because all a man needs to do is say he's a woman/non-binary and no shop assistant who doesn't want a hard time can do much about it.
Look at the case of the double-rapist in Scotland who suddenly decided he was really a woman after being arrested. You can't tell me that doesn't look suspiciously like a man pretending to be trans in order to a) get a lighter sentence because he'd be at risk in prison b) get sent to a more soft-and-cushy women's prison rather than a men's prison and/or c) be in a women's prison with access to more women to terrorise. And if you even think there's a *chance* this may be true, why wouldn't there be other men who would do similar things? Be honest now, if you can.

Hey, you missed. The toilet's over there.

Where the fuck are all these men perving in changing rooms and how is that any different from the long history of peeping toms? If someone is being a creep in a changing room, they're being a creep in the changing room and should be removed, regardless of appearance.

Did that double-rapist actually GET any of the wished-for options you listed here, or is it another overly-specific example you're using to vilify innocent people? I'm not disagreeing that that person is a giant piece of shit, but like any other criminal, what the absolute fuck does that have to do with people who aren't criminals?

The assumption that a transwoman a) will act just like a cis man in any given situation and b) is just lying in order to commit or otherwise cover up for a crime IS TRANSPHOBIC.

NAYRT, but with the part about a man posing as a trans women to go to women's prison, I think they were referencing Isla Bryson, one recent case that prompted Scotland to temporarily stop sending men convicted of raping women to women's prison, pending further investigation.

I get that you're defensive because some people are absolute dicks about the existence of trans women, but there has to be a way to address what trans people need without making it harder for women to avoid being raped by cis men.

And "what's at stake?" and "what would a cis guy stand to gain by lying about being trans?" is more clear cut with gender-segregated criminals than it is with, say ... guys who take surreptitious creepshots of women and post them online.

AYRT (the anon who jumped in next seems to have posted after I went to bed)

I've never seen JK do that - assert that trans people aren't real. She's worried about the perception of biological sex being redefined into something so permeable that a guy who wants to discredit women could just say "well, I, as a woman, think ..." and strawman away, in a world where it's supposedly hateful to be skeptical of that. The people who would do that aren't trans, but our culture currently features bitter, mean-spirited fighting between people who believe a lot of hogwash about the opposite sex, and I don't think it's unreasonable of her to want that addressed.
