Based on no.1

What other overused songs in media have either taken you out of a scene or otherwise given you the wrong reaction because all you can think is 'oh god not that again'?

Bad to the Bone and Stayin Alive are both songs I love, but they are massively overused to the point I laugh if I hear them on screen.

Me too. Especially Bad to the Bone.

Yeesh. With all of the great music out there, why would people in media trot out the same old fifteen to twenty songs in order to supposedly get their point across? Quite frankly, it's boring and cliché. And, sadly, a great opportunity lost. Why not have a unique musical take on a scene? It might make for something more memorable.

How to save a life by The Fray, god but I have come to loathe that song as a lazy shorthand for emotional turmoil and/or a relationship ending.

That song is my jam, lucky me for not realizing it was overused

What a Wonderful World in scenes showing something very not wonderful happening to the world. Yes it's meant to be ironic... in a sad way. Now it's not sad anymore, just dumb.

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, good fucking lord that song is a meme in my own head. Like I love the song because it's really quite a nice ballad, but it got so over-used in every single teen/adult drama back in like 2000-2005 that even when I hear it now there's an 80% chance I'll burst into laughter and have to skip it because the moments ruined.

Stahhhp
Lol that song is permanently fixed in my head. I used it for fic inspiration for exactly the kind of genre drama you're talking about XD

Very deep, many emotions lol

I grew up listening to that song in the car with my mom, so whenever I hear it, no matter the context in the show, I get super nostalgic.

Toxic by Brittany Spears. It's become the calling card of "I couldn't be bothered and wanted a shortcut"

If you were ever into 00s AMVs it becomes impossible to take Numb seriously and I feel like some Chester tributes were lost on me thanks to that

The only appropriate way to listen to Numb is through a plug-in speaker that sounds like its about to explode if you turn the dial too high.
