Fast Food

What are the best and worst fast food places? International, national, and regional and local. What's your top 5?

Oh god, I miss Mazzio's. It's the best pizza chain, but I moved to the west coast and they're only in the central/mid-west.

I live in Japan.

Best: Coco Ichiban, Matsuya (way better than Yoshinoya for me), Sukiya

Worst: Lotteria, Mos Burger, KFC, that chain with a child with freckles in red and white in it :(((

Child with freckles? Do you mean Wendy's? I hear they have locations in Japan.

Yes, Wendy's! Thank you for reminding me.

I went to one near the center of Osaka one evening and it was so bad I got stomach ache for two days.
That was mostly probably because I'm not used to western style fast food, but still. For me it was just plain horrible. Every time I see that logo with the freckled child I shudder...

I had Wendy’s in London when I was a child and it was disgusting. US Wendy’s is nothing special, but it’s just a middle of the pack burger chain. It’s not going to cause trauma.

If you ever get to the midwest (sorry), try Braum's. They are a fast food place and store. I love their burgers and fries. Plus their ice creams. And I love that they make all their own stuff.

"Braum's is noteworthy for its level of vertical integration. Almost all the food products sold at Braum's are processed or manufactured directly by the company; Braum's owns its own feed mill, dairy herd, dairy processing plant, bakery, stores, and delivery trucks. It also owns eight farms and ranches with a total area of 40,000 acres, as well as its flagship dairy farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Braum's describes itself as the only major ice cream maker to still milk its own cows."

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone mention Braum's online. What a blast from the past, I went there all the time as a kid. Loved their orange sherbet.

There's a Braums ice cream plant near my old house. Never toured it until I moved to the coast and came back to visit the family.

Only ever had Braum's once, but their burgers were amazing! :D

There is a shawarma place near my house that's fantastic, and really inexpensive. It's not a chain, though, just a mom-and-pop place.

Besides shawarma, I tend to only go to Subway, because a footlong ham sub with all the vegetables is healthier and (IMO) tastier than whatever burger combo I could get for the same price. Plus I never want the soda, and I barely want the fries, so basically burger combos are just not my thing.

In the U.K. I’d reverse those, somehow they managed to screw up KFC but Maccies is amazing because it’s made out of real food.

My friend said that McDs in our country and USA are like absolutely different chains. And USA's is extremely shitty. It happened like 20 years ago. From this point on I started to go to a McDonald's if I go somewhere. Never been in USA though. But European McDs are mostly more or less the same but Netherland's. Somehow I've never felt more hated by a service worker as in Netherlands. It was bizarre.

I totally agree, lol.
The only time I got KFC in London I got so sick I passed out in the bathroom. This was back in 2011. What a shitty (ah....) memory.

Okay, I've been curious about something for a while now and I'm hoping maybe you can help me: What are McDonald's McNuggets like in the US? Do you feel like they're genuinely chicken? Or do they taste like they're one third chicken, one third soy, and one third breading?

The reason I'm asking is because I live in Canada, and I find McNuggets massively superior to the chicken nuggets at Burger King (which definitely taste like they're 50% chicken at most). However, McNuggets here are expensive. I'm pretty sure ten of them is $8. By contrast, the cost of McNuggets in the US is INSANELY low. Which has made me extremely curious whether US McNuggets are the same as Canadian McNuggets? Because even accounting for economy of scale, I cannot fathom how McNuggets in the US could cost what they do unless they're like 50% wheat/soy/etc.

I'd say one fifth breading, one fifth very low-rent chicken, one quarter salt and the rest grease. They're gross. Never had the Canadian ones.

Ah, okay, that's kind of as I suspected. Booooo, McDonalds, booo. Thanks for answering!

The Starbucks locations near where I live aren't half bad.

McDonald's is a mixed bag: it's either extremely good and clean, or it's full of screaming weirdos that don't give a flying f-bomb about the food.

Both Market Basket and Wegman's have surprisingly good and cheap fast food for supermarket chains.

There's a bagel place down the road that makes the best lox sandwiches.
